Re: what do you think?

Shouldn't be much to it if the rocker is all there is.

Re: what do you think?

Hey that dent in the door looks familar. I did it to my truck not too long ago doing something very stupid. But just to warn you it bent the door where the hinges attach and while it closes still its a real pain and likely my whole door needs replaced.

Re: what do you think?

But, a quick aside.....if you, like me, are no body man, then WE owe it to ourselves to buy the best possible bodied vehicle that we can afford. Body work costs money....and we can chose to pay now, or pay later. Seems like paying now is cheaper than later. The unfortunate side is that it is possible to cover up a lot of sins with primer and paint covering the bondo, and that makes what we deem to be a good body, iffy. Unfortunately, there are people who ply their wares on people like us. I don't want to take anything away from those who are honest and upright. If you are comfortable with what you see, go for it. When I bought my truck six years ago, it was covered in primer. That's supposed to be a no-no, yet I bought it. I could see that the floor was needy, and that the rockers were, too. Yet, the rest of the body was solid, and still is....and, is still in primer.

I'm "workin' on it".....

Re: what do you think?

Looks like a pretty typical truck of this generation.. I think i would take the time to personnaly look at it or see if a board member is close and could look at it for you..

Re: what do you think?

The rocker/sill repair was harder than I thought. I am no pro welder but it came out alright, just a lot of cutting, fitting, cutting, welding, grinding. Was supposed to be a quick fix, ended up taking a lot of time. If you are looking at that truck on Ebay, chances are you may be looking at mine as well. Flat blue primer 69 LWB, 305 700R4. The only rust on the body left on mine is the pass cab corner, a few holes on the rocker. After a few rusty projects I learned to buy rust free, a lot simpler that way.

Re: what do you think?

I paid a body shop $700, four years ago, to replace my rockers, my front floor pans and the kick panels. I furnished the sheet metal, they furnished the labor. They didn't prime anything....just cut and replaced the panels. Hope this helps....but, finding someone is the problem. "Production" body shops don't like to take this kind of work in, since it is labor-intensive. Finding a qualified, or knowledgeable person is preferred, but you gotta know someone, usually, and trust them.

Re: what do you think?

I would figure around $2000 to get it into shape, since there always seems to be something else to fix once you start getting into it. That being said, $1500 for a swb fleetside already converted to injection is a steal.

Re: what do you think?

I was quoted about the same, about $2,000. It was at a restoration shop since normal paint and body shops won't touch the old stuff usually. Thing was, he had "big money" jobs that took precedence and he would work on this "when he got an open moment" which was about 6 mos to a year.
