Help mounting armrests please

I got two armrests out of a donor truck and want to mount them in my 67 which never had armrests (Basic metal skins). The mounting bracket in the door has two square holes which a clip or something fits into to screw into. I spent the afternoon at the local auto parts store looking for something that fills that hole like a clipped nut and nothing seems to work, also they have a lot of plastic parts but for this armrest, a metal part would be better. Could someone please look to see what fills the two square holes. I have nothing to compare to and the donor truck is gone. Thanks

Dave

I'm pretty sure its a clip nut that fill the hole. I would go to a hardware store and tell them what you are looking for they migt have what you need. Just my .02. Good luck and let us know what you find.......

maybe that on of those plastic license plate mounting things would fit.
otherwise you could have a 1/4 in nut tack welded on.

good luck

Best bet is to hit the boneyard and look for some doors. Scavenge the hell out of any doors for panel screws, clips, etc. I recently had to hacksaw the armrest off my driver's door, those screws were fused into the nuts.

You can wish in one hand and crap in the other.
See which one gets filled first.

They are called a cage nut. If you can not find anything I carry them new. They are .40 cents each. Thanks Bill

What I did then I added arm rests to 69 was use the grove nuts from the door handle control unit, I had replaced the units with new ones. The nuts are the same. You have to punch them out of the unit and snap them into the door

Thanks...I found a solution

I went to the local Wal-mart tonight to pick up diapers for my kid and walked by those license plate mounting plugs (thanks Jones) and figured for $1.69, it's worth a try. I came home, tapped them in with a hammer and screwed the armrests in, worked like a champ. Thanks again!

Probably will work good until you really tug on the armrest. Lowes used to have all that stuff until they sold out in the past couple of months. No more bins full of goodies.

Think you looking for the arm rest retainer nut. It's a plastic square nut for attaching arm rest to door. Chevy Duty at http://www.chevyduty.com/ sells them for $.49ea - part number 19-692

Are those nuts the same for the door panel screws too? If so I know I need some new ones. Thanks, Jeff.
