New guy w/ lots of questions

Hey, great site. My name is Ike from Texas. My dad recently gave me a '70 model C-10 longbed. The first thing I want to do is convert the drum brakes to disc. Anyone who has looked into this knows how costly it could be. Being the tightass I am, I try to do as much as I can myself. Can someone tell me is there a year model that would work on this pickup? Is it better to go new on certain parts? And is there somewhere cheaper to buy parts ( trim, interior & exterior) other than LMC? I would appreciate any help you could lend.

Re: New guy w/ lots of questions

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! There're a lot of options to go to disc brakes. The easiest (and possibly cheapest) is to swap the entire xmember from a 71 and up (to 87 truck or 90 blazer/sub). Or you can do like I did and swap just the spindles. Go to the FAQ Submissions page and check the index thread for links to articles on the upgrade.
Here's a link to the vendors that support this board.

Thanks for the warm reception. I'm usually not able to respond right away. I do this at o.j.t. & Alcon Labs thinks I should get up & do something. Imagine that.

Welcome to the board from West Tennessee. Good luck on the brake swap. Seems to be a nuts and bolts swap. Keep us posted on your buildup.
