How do I "Decode" or ID my 12 bolt?

Hi:

I have a 1972 GMC Sierra 1500. It has leaf springs and a 12 bolt, how do I "ID" the 12 bolt to figure out what gear is in it?

Thanks!

On the passenger side axle tube close to the pumpkin near the top (somewhere between the shock mount and the cast center section) there is a stamped code.. you will need the last two to three letters, ( I use a knife to scrape the crud off)
When you find that look here for the info...
