Drain holes in bed

Has anyone drilled any drain holes in their truck beds? If so how big of a hole do you drill?

Re: Drain holes in bed

Wood or Metal??

In my case, using a wood bed that I made from teak, when I cut the grooves for the hold down strips, I also made a small groove outward every foot or so. That way I have drainage all along the wood, not just at the front or back. These drainage slots are hidden by the hold down strips...

Re: Drain holes in bed

Mine must be plugged then since there was 1-2 inches of water in the bed.

Re: Drain holes in bed

they aren't very big and it doesn't take much to plug them up.

Re: Drain holes in bed

You should have 2 on the front wall of the bed where it meets the floor near the corners.

Re: Drain holes in bed

Here is a shot of the wood before it was installed in the bed.

I ordered the wood and cut it down to size and cut the grooves in it. Was fun but the varnishing (10 coats on all sides) and sanding took me a long time.

Hopefully you can see the little notches about every 18" or so.

Re: Drain holes in bed

2 in the front, and i drilled 2 quarter inch holes in the front of the wheelwells next to the bedside, and then water can drain out the rear in the tailgate gap.

sorry to hijack again but... did you order the wood from Mark-K or whom? Can you give me a ball park figure on the entire wood package? Did you have to mill the the strip grooves in as well?

Re: Drain holes in bed

Near San Francisco, you can expect to pay $1100 - $1600 for this wood. (even higher for knot free wood)
I had a connection (flyfishing buddie) that imports Teak up in Washington sell me the wood shipped to my door for $700. I say had, as he committed suicide several years ago...... Totaly unexpected and affected alot of his friends and family. Has something to do with taking that depression meds that is now being blamed for a lot of suicides...
