Rear axle bearing install - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Going to swap the old 6 lug axles for 5 lugs. Want to put new bearings in at the same time. Anyone gone this route? Anyone know what tools I will need?

Not as easy as swapping them out. This will give you a pretty good idea:

Looks to be a bit more involved than I was expecting. I was thinking I could just swap the axle bearings and leave the diff alone. Thanks for the link.

Yes you can just swap the axle end bearings.
