1972 gmc trannsmission swap

i havent done a whole lot of research into this, but my 72 GMC pickup has a 3-speed automatic transmission with a later 1980's 350 engine, and my brother has a 1987 chevy and his has a 4 speed automatic. if i was to find a 4-speed automatic from a 1987 or similar year, would it be a whole bunch of work to change it out with mine?

You will have to move crossmember back I think like 3 inches or so and shorten driveshaft since 4 speed trans is a little longer. Prob have to relocate shift linkage as well. I have done few trucks that I changed from a Turbo 350 3 speed trans to a 700R4 is its not too bad of a swap. Others I'm sure will chime in on anything I missed

2004R is a close to same overall length of the TH350 - might avoid needing to cut the driveshaft with this route. But 700R4 and 2004R are both good options.
