how do I install the spring for the shift lever for my auto/tilt column? Does the column have to come all the way apart? Thanks for you help.

remove shifter, pull old spring guts out, slip new spring in, slide shifter in.
I have a hack saw bladt that I ground the teeth off of, kinda have it bent and twisted, I place it over the spring and slide the shifter in on top, then pull the blade out.
It's a real PITA till you've done a dozen or so... then it's just a pain.

Iam guessing that is goes in toward the steering wheel side and pushes the level toward the dash. Are there other parts in the hole or just the lever and spring?

it is actually on the dash side, and pushes on the end of the lever, it is past the pivot point.
That's all you'll find in there, just the spring and lever.

got it (what a pita) I am now a pro. The spring was too long and I took it out 3 or 4 times then figured the spring was too long. I took a little off and it works well. thanks for your help.
