Question Alternator conversion ???

Instead of keeping the plug that goes into the external regulator, can i just cut it off and splice the wires together? White to brown and red to blue. After doing this I have only three wires that go to my alternator now. A blue and white that i plug into the alternator and a red that plugs into the back of it. Is this correct?

A ground would be a good idea too.
I deleted the plug in the harness that is going into the Longhorn. If you unwrap your harness, you'll see that there is alot of wire that you can remove and throw away if you want to delete the plug.

My GMC has a ground in the harness, I am unsure of the Longhorn...been a while since I have even seen that harness. It's in a box somewhere since the move.
You could just ground the case of the alt to the engine block. Just remember that bad gropunds are the #1 electrical problem on old vehicles.

Not on the charging circuit...only if your bad ground is on the battery terminal or the other end of that battery cable.

Try this link. It should have the info your looking for. It is what I used when I went to a internal regulator on my 69 Camaro.
Good luck.

But it is so much easier to hook up the alt the same way as it was (with the new pig tail spliced/soldered in) and then jump the wires on the regulater plug like this...
