I was wondering if anyone makes a full size insert in anything other then cardboard? I have the Vintage Air plastic one in my 67, came with my a.c. kit. I have the room for a full size insert in my `70 panel and would like something stronger then original. Any ideas?

I've wondered about painting the cardboard or coating it with resin for fiberglass, but got lazy.

How about painting tha cardboard linner with bed liner in tha spray can..

I took the cardboard (soggy) glovebox out of mine, traced it out on some thin sheet metal, cut it out, bent it up and installed it.

I got a plastic one from a company called Old Air Customs. A lot sturdier.

I wonder how you go about installing a sturdier one. You a about have to fold it in two to get it in there.

This was what I was thinking also. How in the world would you install anything that wouldn't bend are fold for that matter!

I had an old cardboard one in my IH Scout2 and I used the spray on bed liner in a can, and it's kept everything nice and dry, and has held up well for 10ish years. Still looks great too.

I made mine out of aluminum heres the pics I just took my old cardboard one apart and used it as a template.

And finally installed

I could do something like that. How does it install though. Can you install it through the door opening?

Yeah the aluminum that I used is extremely flexible and it bends enough to fit through the door opening. It is extremely flexible but sturdy. I just used rivets to hold mine together. Plus it can be removed easy to, I had to take mine out when I swapped cabs.

mine looks just like that. I didnt use rivits though, small nuts and bolts. I didn't put the nuts and bolts on till it was in place. By doing that, I was able to squeeze the top and bottom closer together enough to fit it sideways though the door opening..
I placed a thin rubber mat on the floor of the box though to keep junk from rattling around in there.
