Kiss another one goodbye

So, nobody is hurt! About 2 months ago, my brother bought an Ebay special, '72 GMC 3/4T, 2WD, SM465. I was really impressed with the overall condition of this truck, and jealous 'cause I've always wanted a GMC. Still has the original AM radio in the unmolested dash! Bought w/o a motor, but other than that, it was ready to drive. So we pulled a motor from the garage, dropped it in & had her running over the course of a couple of weekends.
Now to the point, Saturday, he calls and asks how to pull a fender off of a tire... The story I'm getting from him, is he was pulling into the parking lot at work, and his foot slipped off of the brake, and he hit a wall. That was one fierce wall! The frame horns (at minimum) are bent, fender, destroyed the grill, bent the radiator support, inner & outer fenders, and pushed the outer into the door, so I'm guessing the cab/firewall is mangled as well. And that's just what I saw looking at it for 5 - 10 minutes.
I'm glad he's OK! I might talk him out of the bed, I hope. But this is one that'll never get to see asphault again. RIP

Lots of work, and the right parts and it's back on the road. If you managed to get it running in two weekends, you can get it back on the road again. When you pull the fender, you can assess the firewall for damage.

Unfortunately, I'm not much of a body person. I can wrench with the best of them, but sheet metal seems to still get the best of me... It might be fixable, we'll have to really comb thru it and find out.

..and that is the key. At least pull the fender off and see what's going on behind it before you throw in the towel. If the frame is tweaked, it may be easily un-tweaked. Do that first and then get on with the cosmetic replacement. So what if the colors don't match at first. If the parts can be replaced and made to align, then paint will be a piece of cake....rust not withstanding, however.

When you say you aren't much of a body person, see what you can do with what mechanical skills you have before you quit. Taking parts off of a body is cleaner than rebuilding an engine. Fewer bolts, too. You may find some "flexibility of the old body" is necessary, but you'll recover.

Go ahead, check it out.

to bad you live so far away , i do sheetmetal for a living and i know squat about engines,we could get alot done. glad know one was hurt , thats the main thing toys can be replaced but its more fun to rebuild em.

Unless the cab or frame is tweaked it will most likely be an unbolt and take off the damaged nose an bolt back on a good nose. Or the part of one that it needs. My truck (71 GMC) had similar damage when my aunt (my uncle owned the truck then) had a mid intersection meeting with another vehicle.
