Project "Old Blue"
Well I think it is time for my build thread. I bought my ’69 long bed in Oct of ’06 and have done a few things since then. This is going to be another project slow go. There are too many of these but if we all had money then we would all be done now
 . When I bought it I was just happy it was running and drivable. The PO drove it for 4 hours down to my area to drop it off when I bought it. Paid $2000 for the truck and $70 for the gas to get it here. I guess I did well because I get comments that it is solid. Here are some pics of when I got it.

My first chore was to get the hood painted to match the rest of the truck and all of the spots where there was faded paint (good old Krylon). Also the stands for the old mirrors had to come off. I took the old seat cover off and bought a new GM seat cover to put on it. I also replaced the stock steering wheel with a smaller one. I had to get rid of the stock manifolds because they were all rusted out and not even connected to the pipes right. Even the glass packs that were on it were like Swiss cheese. Had to buy the headers but I had a set of flow masters from my Camaro laying around. Spending big money now. Took me a while to do anything to it after that then I saved up enough to change the upper half of my 350 with some parts I had from my Camaro. Bumped up the HP a little bit.

Well for a while everything was going great until the Power glide couldn’t take it anymore and said FU. So was time for my first real mod. I searched around and found a 700r4 for $250 bought a bigger radiator, replaced the oil pump and swapped out the body mounts. Don’t have many pics of this.

My next mod took some more time to get to. I got bored one day so I got some aircraft stripper and removed the paint on my grill. Only to find out that it had a lot of bondo and that the sanding they did to it would be there forever. Went back with some gloss black to put the details back in

It was finally time to get rid of the Flex fan. I bought 2 14” electric fans off of Ebay and built a shroud for them. Right now they are ran off of a relay to the key but later I’m running them off of a thermostat. You can really feel the wind when they are going. I noticed a 20 deg drop in temp at idle.
   Well I finally got fed up with all the little ricers cutting me off so I thought I should be heard. It is hard to stop fast sometimes with 4 wheel manual drums.     Before  After

I got around to using the 4” rear coils I bought. Since I’m buying new front coils when I switch to disc later I decided to cut 1 coil from the front to lower it and install the rear. I was pleased with the way it sat. The back end is lower now that the coils are worked in.
Before  After  Now I’m up to the mod I’m working on now. I started to design my own LED tail lights. I bought a fuel filler and a Blazer tank. A while back I bought some seats from Randomhero. I took the bed off and mounted the tank. After I plumbed the tank I removed the old one and mounted the seats. I like the feel a lot. Also I like that the shoulder strap is mounted to the seat. I still have to mod the bed for the tail light filler door.

Right now the stuff I have on the back burner are sitting in the back room. I have the Brothers one-piece power window kit and a single piece rear glass. I also have the complete weather stripping for the truck and a set of Stainless headers and Stainless Flow master mufflers. Well that is it so far I’ll add more when I get something to add

looking good my wife wants an air horn like that.
Did you take the finned valve covers off the engine ? I like the way those look. I like the seats. alot nice then the old bench seat.

When it was still leaking I try to tighten it but it was sitting on the raised spot on the upper back of the head and cracked the cover. Hotrod 80 got them now and fixed them. He put them on one of the engines he is building.

I got the bed back on now and changed where I ended up putting the filler. Soon I'm going to make a fuel filler door for it. I ended up plumbing the system with 1 1/4" copper tubing. For the vent I have a 1/2" hose going to a 1/2" tee then to 2 3/8 glass fuel filters with charcoal in them. Still have to work with them because I'm still getting burp back when I fill the tank fast. My friend is using this venting system with one filter on his Cobra and says that I filled them to much. So next time I go fill up I'm going to dump some first. If that doesn't work I'm going to go look at the newer trucks to see how they are ran.

Hey man, thats looks great! I like the tank filler location and the copper tubing, never would have thought of that. For teh grille, u can give it a brushed or even a polished finish with some work. Take some 80 grit or around there to it then a little finner, maybe a 150 or somethin to get all the major scratches out. Then use some different grades of scotch bright to give it that brushed finish. Polishing would clearly take longer, btut aht would look sweet.

Well I got a fuel door made for it and installed. I just need to think of a way to keep it closed. Right now I'm just using a magnet.

I bought a sway bar from teeitup not to long ago. I took it to work and glass beaded it to clean it up then sprayed it black. It is the 1 1/16" bar. I noticed a big difference with it on.
