Best S15 4x4

Hi Everyone!

I am a noobie to this forum, and have some questions. Yes, I have searched extensivey, but please excuse me if the answers are elsewhere, I just couldn't find them.

In 1985, I bought a new GMC Jimmy 4x4 with manual tranny, 2.8 v6 and all the options. Loved the truck, but unfortunately, sold it following 10 trouble free years (it went along with my ex!).

I now am longing for a similar truck. What in your opinion was the best year for the 4x4 Jimmy? Also, I am looking for one without any engine management computer, or electronic iginition. Was one produced like that, or do I need an aftermarket crate motor?

Thanks for your help, and a fantastic forum.

Roger

even the first S10's had an ECM for controlling the feedback carburetor.
GM has had electronic ignition since 1974 on domestic produced models.

it sounds like you need an early LUV. IIRC the first ones had points, no ICM.

Thanks. Do you know if the ECM can be eliminated? I am not looking for an "all original collectors edition", just a good ride.

Most older ECMs can be bypassed if they have a mechanical speedometer and you toss an older carburetor on top.

Thanks, that is what I wanted to hear.

Now, has anyone done a small diesel engine wsap for the S10/S15?
