Re: how to remove steering wheel?

you have to get a steering wheel puller. you can usually borrow them from autozone, or o reilys, checkers. be sure and put a mark on the wheel and the hub so you can re-align the wheel properly

you really need to use a puller so that you don't damage anything.. You could rig up something I guess... It's basically one center bolt with a T-bar that has two bolts the screw into the steering wheel. Any type of puller should work...

Re: how to remove steering wheel?

Maybe if there's room behind the wheel to swing a bfh

I bought a wheel puller many years ago -- cheap, and a great investment. It just works so well for the purpose.

Re: how to remove steering wheel?

with the shaft nut loose even with the ends of the threads but not off you scrunch up in the seat put pressure on the back of the steering wheel with your knees then with a hammer yougive the nut a good solid whack //it's usually good enough to break the wheel ffree of the shaft taper// have done this hundreds of times and havent damaged a thing

Thats how i was taught too, thats the time tested barnyard technique! I was yanking on one once it came off and damn near broke my nose when it hit me!

Re: how to remove steering wheel?

a $15 cheapie puller is a good investment. It can be used here and there, and doesn't take much room at all when not being used.
Ive done the pull methos, I've done the hammer method, and in all reality, it just isn't worth it.
