00 Brake Issues, what to do??

So i was wondering if anyone has or had the same issue as i do. With the truck in park and running, i can pump the brakes a couple times and get to a point where i cant push the pedal down any, but when its in drive i can never do this. In normal driving conditions, i can push all the way down on the brake pedal until it hits the floor. When braking, the pedal has a kind of nothing zone where it does nothing and then the braking starts, id say about half way down. I am assuming this is a master cylinder problem, but has anyone had this problem and fixed it? Only reason is that when u slam on the brakes, the stopping distance is huge, id never be able to avoid an accident with it like this. Thanks...

BRAD

my truck you can push the pedal all the way to the floor too. but it stops good. I think its something to do with the abs. mine acts up when im in 4wd and bouncing around.

Yea thats what me an my dad were thinkin about, cause he had a bit of a run in with another guy and had to slam on the brakes, and he said the abs wasnt doing anything, which u would think it should since the brakes should theoretically be able to lock up the tires.

How many miles on the truck? what does the fluid look like? im sure it could stand a flush and fill with new fluid.

Re: 00 Brake Issues, what to do??

The ABS should not affect pedal feel/performance until the wheel sensors detects a wheel lockup and activate the ABS pump/system. I would suspect a bad master cylinder or booster.

Sky have you had to replace the speed sensors on the front wheels. These trucks had a recall on them. the abs would kick in at 18 mph down to 10 mph during normal stops. they were either cleaned or replaced. i had both of mine replaced a few yrs ago.
