SPID description of Turbo 400

What should the SPID say for a turbo 400? This one just says turbo-hydramatic, but I'm not sure what the code means. Can anyone decipher it for me? (This is the truck I think I'm gonna get).

Re: SPID description of Turbo 400

I think the 350 and 400s had the same code. Not sure about the glide however.

Re: SPID description of Turbo 400

M49 in a pickup covers both TH350 and TH400. A hand full did get some other code for the TH350, butmore often than not, m49 covered both 3 speed hydromatics. Some people on here have said they think an astric after the code ment 400, but I've seen original TH400 trucks without the astric.

However, being that you are looking at a big block truck, it would have been a TH400.

That looks like a well equipped 70 BB longhorn there.

Re: SPID description of Turbo 400

i thought m40 was th350 and m49 was th400.

and that is a very nicely equiped truck not to often do you see the extra battery.

Re: SPID description of Turbo 400

my one ton and my old 3/4 ton both came with the TH350 and they were M49. One was built in St louis and the other in Baltimore... both 1970 model trucks. (one in april, the other in june if memory serves)
My other 2 trucks were TH400 trucks, and they were both M49... a 69 built in St louis, and off the top of my head I can't remember where the suburban was built.
Like i said, there were some that got typed up with the car code for the Th350, but the trucks were supposed to be M49 for either one.

Re: SPID description of Turbo 400

There is nothing specifying which Turbo Hydramatic the truck is equipped with, just M49...only code.

Re: SPID description of Turbo 400

a big block would have had a TH400, yes, but any of the other engines could have had any of the trannys... seen inlines and small blocks with TH400's, seen inlines and small blocks with powerglides, and seen inlines and small blocks with TH350's. Seen the TH350 and 400 in C/10 C/20 and in C/30... only seen the powerglide in C/10 trucks though.
