Re: cool snowblower on a GMC

Too cool. Funny that he uses a block of wood to set the power plant RPM. Since he has a full gauge package and starter button for the power plant in the cab of the truck, why not setup a simple push/pull throttle cable? 99% of the way there, come one, get to 100%

Love it!
My friend has a '69 GMC, and he'll get a kick out of this video.

Yeah I thought that was funny also. I'm just not sure why he used the rear mounted diesel engine in the first place (besides extra weight in the rear) Since it has a standard trans most likely a SM465 I would have just used a trans mounted PTO and pump but that probably would not have the RPMs to turn the pump. Looked at a dump truck once that had the trans mounted PTO and pump and had a second pump mounted directly on the front of the engine with a coupling between the crank pulley and the pump.

Re: cool snowblower on a GMC

Old guy probably had the 3-53 lying around and it's triple purpose... runs the hydraulic pump, provides winter weight and causes you to go deaf. What more could you need!! Probably didn't want to use the PTO because you would lose snowblower whenever you push the clutch in and you would have to keep the truck wound tight to keep the snowblower going!!!

Ingenuity at its finest!
We could have used that years ago when I grew up in Maine. All Granddad had at the time was a Simplicity garden tractor with a snow blade on the front. took hours to do our 200' driveway.

Re: cool snowblower on a GMC

That's the classiest personal snow blower yet! I believe the real deal Oshkoshes, etc, all have auxiliary power to run the blower:
