Talking Project: My Black Truck

So I have already posted pictures of my truck within the last month or so but I figure I would post some more in an official project thread. I am working on making everything better however I have no garage, I'm working on buying more tools each week and I live in california which just makes everything worse. I have pictures of the stuff Im working on and will post them soon. I just installed a dakota digital dash today and Im going to be replacing/repairing the interior slowly over the next few months. Ill keep you guys posted.

Re: Project: My Black Truck

Little update, So I got my truck back from the shop yesterday, had to get all new bearings in my transmission. In the past week I installed Dakota Digital dash, had the guys at the shop fix up the coolant leak and gave her a wash tonite. Tomorrow is gonna be her maiden voyage, out on the big bad highway since I got her. Between registration getting insurance and getting things fixed I haven't had a chance to take the truck out on more than a ride or two around the block. Im hoping for the best. Well wish me luck I will be taking pictures of the new dash tomorrow.

Re: Project: My Black Truck

Tore out the carpet, disgusting, found some past patch panels and some rust that I didnt know about but over all nothing crazy. Think Im gonna clean the S**t out of the metal and try to coat the whole floor with something before I carpet or put in a rubber floor. Still trying to work the bugs out of the Dakota Digital dash I think Im having some issues with the initial voltage when the truck starts, i will have to call customer service again.

Re: Project: My Black Truck

A little progress since last time. So I did some adding and some deleting today. Added a new air cleaner and a valve cover filter and some little clips to hold the spark plug wires. Deleted a whole bunch of vacuum tubes and most of the emissions crap. I know I know Im never gonna get it smogged and all that but I will worry about that later. Funny thing is once I took the emissions stuff off I did some inspecting and found that it wasn't in working order anyway. So there! Anyway I know that no one cares what I write so here are the pictures that you came for.

Re: Project: My Black Truck

Just wanted to make a note that is is easier to get in your car in California drive a block or two and buy a half pound of marijuana legally than it is to find store that is willing to sell a EGR block off plate. Went ahead and ordered one online, Crazy crazy state!!!

Re: Project: My Black Truck

So I just got my EGR block off plate installed and I fired the truck up and wow let me tell you she is purring like a kitten. It is amazing how much more quiet the truck is now. I don't know what it is but all that crap and vacuum tubes make it so much more noisy. Well thats all for now. I have to get some brass plugs for the thermostat housing and manifold to finish up the emissions delete Im working on here.

Re: Project: My Black Truck

So I went to get the floor repaired and ended up deciding to replace the whole cab. Long story but the new cab is cherry and has zero rust. Going from a little fix up project to a frame off resto. Here are some pictures.

Re: Project: My Black Truck

So its been slow going but I thought I would add some pictures of the progress. The truck is stripped down to the frame and everything is slowly being stripped and primered. Here are some pics of the cab. It is primered and has been sprayed with bedliner inside and out.

I like that bedliner, should take along time for that stuff to wear out

Re: Project: My Black Truck

Yeah Im gonna cover it with some dynamat and then top it off with a new carpet. The roof and rear pillars were filled with like 4 cans of expandable foam. When you tap on the roof it sounds like you are tapping on a surfboard, Solid. Im pretty happy with the progress it just seems like the more you take apart the more things you find to spend money on.

Re: Project: My Black Truck

So I did a little repair on the dash pad. Bought some SEM bumper repair and some SEM textured black paint. Filled in the crack that was there and then the speaker holes. Worked out pretty well still, have some low spots but I used all the bumper stuff up, I figure that the paint will even it all out. Sanded it all down and will paint it on Saturday probably. I also flipped it over and filled all the speaker holes from the backside with JB Weld should really solidify the repair. Here are some pictures.
I also found out the dash was brown originally!
