Newer truck bench seat?

I'm starting to drive my truck more and more now and I really want to upgrade my stock seat and lap belts. What seats from which year trucks fit well in a 69 C/10? I've done a few searches and I like the newer leather silverado seats with the seat belts integrated into the seats, but I am open to other suggestions as well. Please show me some pictures of what you have and let me know what they came out of. I plan on making a trip to the local salvage yard Friday to look at some seats.

Re: Newer truck bench seat?

A couple of years ago, Custom Classic Trucks magazine did an article on truck seats, which included measurements of seat width. Their test vehicle was a square-body Chevy, but the seat of those trucks is the same as the 67-72's.

A common swap has been the '88-98 bench, but finding one in decent shape is getting more difficult. The '99-up seat is also the same width, I believe, but the mounting makes installation more difficult. As for my truck, I have a '98 Tahoe 2nd-row seat (in leather) to put in my '69. Putter did an install thread if you want to see how it looks.

Re: Newer truck bench seat?

ChevLoRay, are you suggesting that the 88-98 bench seat is a direct bolt in replacement for our trucks?

Re: Newer truck bench seat?

88-98 bench won't use the same bolt holes. Just need to plug the old ones and drill new. I had one in mine, but I just put in 2003 Yukon 40/20/40 seats in. They have the built in shoulder belts and power drivers side. Width wise is fine, but they are a little tight front to back. But OH SO comfy!

Re: Newer truck bench seat?

The '88-'98 bench seat will bolt right in the front seat mount holes width wise, but the rear bolt holes don't line up so wear your seat belt. I ran one from a single cab Silverado which is an uncommon combo in the age of extra cabs, it had the fold down arm rest for driver and was by far the most comfortable seat I have had in my truck to date. I sometimes wish I had it back, but the buddy buckets are cool.

Re: Newer truck bench seat?

Thanks for the info. Please continue posting your swaps. For those of you that have swapped the newer silverado seats, 1999 or newer, have you shortened the steering column?

Re: Newer truck bench seat?

I had this 92 bench in mine for a few years. I liked it alot. It was comfortable and fit in the truck nicely. My upholsterer talked me into going back with an original CST seat when I restored the truck, though.

I've got it listed on CL for $100.

I measured a dodge seat today at the salvage yard, and it was around 62". I measured the stock seat and it was 58". To me, it looked like anything more than a 60" seat would be pushing it considering how much the arm rests stick out. Which dodge seats will fit in the cab and have clearance?

Just curious now, i have reciently discovered that there are 2 bench seats for our trucks, one has a real deep foam, the other (mine) is a thinner foam in springs.

My question then is the CST a deep foam seat? are there other option trucks that have this thick foam? i want to be looking for one and hopefully buy one someday.

Re: Newer truck bench seat?

Yes, the CST seats have the thicker foam. My original seat was one with the thin foam and big springs. Three springs had broke and it was quite uncomfortable. I replaced it with the 92 bench posted above.

My upholsterer made new foam for my CST seat since the old stuff was broken down. It's very comfortable. I can drive in my truck all day and not be tired or hurting.

Here's how it looks now.

I was able to sit in a thick foam seat for the first time last week, i must say i was very dissapointed.....That my seat is a spring seat!

I also have a broken spring in the drivers side that somehow needs repaired.

Mine came out of a 99 and it fits with plenty of room...Look at the pics in the post link.
