Heater Hose Routing Help

After reading on here it looks like the top (outlet) of the heater core goes to the water pump and the bottom (inlet) goes to the intake.

My problem is most of the pics that I see show the heater hose going to the front of the intake and my port is on the back. Does anyone have advice on routing or pics of a similar setup. I have a 70 chevy with a swapped 350 from a 90 chevy.

Thanks!

Re: Heater Hose Routing Help

You want the hottest water available to go in the bottom of the heater core. If your intake only has a provision in the back than thats it.
The top going to the water pump is a secondary hookup as the original radiator had a port for the return line.
Hope this helps.....

I'm intrigued by this...is there a reason for it? I've never really paid much attention to which side of the core went to which outlet/inlet on the engine/radiator.

The theory is that the heater core fills from the bottom and in doing so purges all the air out of the heating core allowing it to heat to full potential.

I have also found a number of trucks including mine that are the exact opposet, the reason i say this is that the heater core has 2 different hose sizes, a 5/8's and a 3/4. Per everything i have read the 3/4 is the return and the 5/8's is the inlet. On my truck i have a 3/4 return port on the bottom of the core, and my truck has a radiator return which is also 3/4. I have looked at a bunch of photo's and have found this frequently. My truck does heat up so i don't know if it really matters.
