Re: 1967 longhorn step ?

If it is the one i am thinking of, it is a 9' box. Not a longhorn. Longhorns didn't come out until in 68 somewhere.

Re: 1967 longhorn step ?

longhorns were only in fleetside, not stepside.
March of 68 was the first Longhorn.

Re: 1967 longhorn step ?

So what is the step side long boxes called? Are they factory or custom? I know where there is one locally in a junkyard. Thought it was kind of cool.

Long box stepside. Factory built. Available in short, long(8') and 9'. I think the 9' may have been one ton only. And the short bed would be 1/2 ton only.

Re: 1967 longhorn step ?

This is what I've been able to pull together:

The longhorn shared the same 133" WB frame with the 1 ton, 9' box stepside. The term longhorn" means 8-1/2' fleetside (133" WB fleetside). The poster on craigs probably has what you're thinking of, just incorrectly referred to as a longhorn.

Now, what I don't get is- how can both trucks have the same 133 WB frame, and the stepside box is 108" long while the longhorn is 104" long???

Re: 1967 longhorn step ?

You call a 9' Stepside a one ton or C/30 Stepside. C/30s came in two wheel bases,133" and 157". Until Longhorns, which came out in '68,the only pickup bed you could get was a Stepside on the shorter frame. There was no 8' C/30 Stepside. These trucks went back way back to the beginning and the last of them was '72. The Longhorn has less overhang on the back because 6" was added to the front of a standard longbed and none to the back. Many people don't understand and call the Stepsides Longhorns, which is incorrect.

Re: 1967 longhorn step ?

special-K has in right. There were actually 3 stepside beds '67-'72: 6.5', 8', and C-30/3500 only 9'.
