How Low?

How low can you go without needing an adjustable trackbar? This is on a 71 shortbed.

Re: How Low?

I'd say anything past a 3" drop.

Re: How Low?

So if I do like a 2/3 drop I should be okay with the stock trackbar?

The stock Panhard bar will still work @ > 4" drops, it's just not going to be optimum. The greater the drop, the more the rear-end will be shifted to one side. The angle of the bar also has an impact on it's performance. The lower you get w/the bar in the stock location, the farther away from optimum the angle gets.

You could get a 'short' adjustable Panhard bar that mounts just like the original to compensate, but it will still have the undesirable working angle. For a few bucks more, you could get a longer bar (Super track Bar kit) that yields less side shift as the suspension travels (longer bar = less side shift upon suspension compression/extension) & relocates the rearend mount to a better working height for greater than 4" drops.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
