Installing a 502 (8.1L) in a 71 C10 lwb

I am going to install a complete 8.1L and 4spd auto tranny in my 2wd C10. I want to run the fuel injection setup as is because it seems to be pain free. I drove the cab and chassis vehicle for 3 years that it was in and hadvery little problems. I also want to install the ac system into my 71 since it was a factory ac truck. I need some insight, advice, or watch out for's from people that have tried this or know someone that has.

The 8.1l is 496 cubic inches, not 502.

I'm not sure in the case of this engine but 6" less can be a deal breaker at times.

Re: Installing a 502 (8.1L) in a 71 C10 lwb

Oooops. I did the math wrong. This may go back to the "its a 396 instead of a 402" thing..hehe I like the sounds of a 502, but I guess i will have to settle for a 496, hehe. I got the entire setup, motor and tranny, plus the cab and chassis for $2000! I want to put the entire setup in my truck plus the AC system, that would be kick butt in my ol' primer driver. It looks like DirtyLarry is the man with the information looking at his swaps. Anyone else can chime in all they want, i cant have to much information.

You should have a pretty easy go at it since you have every possible piece you could need to do the swap. You will likely have to get new ac lines made to hook the new compressor to your old truck. No big deal though. Use as much as you can from the donor truck. It will make your life a lot easier.

Thanks for the tips guys! DirtyLarry has sent me lots of valuable information, he's seems to be quite experienced on these matters. It will probably be 3-4 months before this thing is ready to roll, but it will be so worth it in the end!!!
