What motor is it?????
My friend just bought a 1970 Blazer with what we thought was a 350. We were able to get numbers off some of the parts on it. We really need help decoding what this is. The engine casting # is 3782870. On the side of the block near the oil filter is N7 812. The engine number is FI028S. The intake number is 626375 and the carb is a rochester 7029268WF. If anyone out there has any info please let me know. Thanks.

Re: What motor is it?????
Its a 327. Small journal block meaning you cant just swap to a common 350 crank and have your 350.

Re: What motor is it?????
Yup it will accept all the same parts as any other sbc would. The only real difference between that 327 and a 350 will be that it has a small journal crank. It also likely has the oil fill in the intake and could have a road draft tube instead of a pcv. I would switch to a pcv system if it doesnt already have it.

Re: What motor is it?????
Did any of those motors come with a 4bbl? What is the hp rating on that motor. The exhaust manifolds are 3733975 and 3733976.

Re: What motor is it?????
The numbers on the intake and the exhaust manifolds are pretty much useless. Your best bet is to find a used edelbrock or similar intake and just swap it all out. Throw a set of headers on it and call it good. Trying to chase down ancient factory parts that sucked in the first place is a waste of time and energy. There was a ton of stuff that affected the hp rating. All the 60's engines werent rated the way engines are rated now anyhow. They all show higher hp numbers than they actually had. They would dyno the engines with no accessories etc etc.

Re: What motor is it?????
My stock manifold has the exact number with a number 1 on the end. The one that my buddy has doesn't. I think the suffix # is an FI028S

Re: What motor is it?????
Just out of curiosity why all the interest in the casting numbers? I understand the engine itself but why everything else?

Re: What motor is it?????
My friend wants to know exactly what he has. It's tough to get plugs/wires/hei if you dont know what you have to start with. So i can tell him to get an hei frm a late 70's 350?

Re: What motor is it?????
The beauty of a sbc is that everything interchanges. Make sure you get a non esc hei. You best bet is probably to just spend the cash on an aftermarket hei and call it good. By the time you freshen up a junkyard with new cap rotor etc and possibly more if it turns out it doesnt work you could have spent more than a brand new hei will cost. Just order wires for a mid 70's truck. Do the same with the plugs. If you have a known good hei laying around then by all means toss it in there.

Re: What motor is it?????
Sweet Cableguy. Thanks for the info. The motor runs great and has plenty of power. The only issue we've had is that it boggs down at about 30mph. Thanks for all the info guys.
