Re: Sometimes you forget what you realy love doin

Morning!! So I have a couple more updates.. I ended up painting my frame white with some oilbase i had sitting around.. believe it or not I actualy rolled and brushed it..No marks on it at all aside from all the dust it caught from taking 2 days to dry lol. i pulled off my rear end and cleaned that up while the paint dried.. Now that was an adventure all in its own. trying to get the leafsprings off and the square u bolts off.. Those things were rusted man. busted a nice breaker bar and a few cheaP SOCKETS.... but i finally got it off and cleaned up.. The problem I had however was finding those damn square u bolts. no-one had them. I ended up going to west sacramento to get them made at a spring shop.... Oh I almost forgot. my new sending unit came in so i took out my gas tank to clean it out. it turns out the PO must have cleaned it cause it was rust free and even had some rocks left in it...... Ill try and post some pics of the progress tonight if I get a chance.. also on sunday I went over to my soon to be in-laws and mentioned I had went and checked out a potential parts truck. 71 chevy swb 4x4 for 1000.. needless to say bein the redneck he is it now sits in his driveway. we drove it there and havent been able to start it since.. But i think i just made a new best friend lol

Re: Sometimes you forget what you realy love doin

Morning.. I just realized how badly this should be called project cheap as... This saturday i went out to the local u-pull it to snag a long bed box. I figured i could cut out the quarter and the bed down to size. While I was there I ran into a couple gents that were chevy truck enthusiast and ended up at their house drinking cold ones that evening. I scored a full long bed minus the bedside i was gonna chop the quarter off. ( that was already promised out to someone) for a case of cerveza. I just gotta wait til the field dries up so i can yank it... So sunday i went out to the Rocklin Pick n Pull. with my father... LOL i called him to tell him I was'nt going to the fleamarket with him but would be at the wrecking yard. He said. " I'll be ready , come pick me up".. So i grabbed a few tools some tinsnips . and back I came with the tail light section of my bedside.
I have to admit , aside from the uv burn on my face from wearing goggles and not the faceshield i think i grafted the two pieces nicely... Hopefully I can go get my bed pieces before the weekend and maybe have a bed again by sunday.. wish me luck

Ok I'm here .. so ;lets see.. So far from my last post i have managed to repair that driver side bedside. its a bit of a pain in the butt using a fluxcore welder but i gues its better than sheetmetal screws and bondo.. lol ( thats how i did my lowrider bike when i was a kid).. I finaly stoped raining and i had time between meetings and events to finaly get out to my buddys house to get that longbed floor.. I also picked up a radiator shroud, and some stock front springs from him as mine were cut wa too short.... last night my Buddy larry came by and we stARTED WELDING UP WHAT WILL BE MY SHORTBED FLOOR..

Good Progress on the project, good luck!

And careful when welding! I've been in the hospital for being dumb welding when I was in high school.

Re: Sometimes you forget what you realy love doin

Lol the donor is in pretty good shape... needs tranny and driveline. and the squrells need to come get all ther almond shells out.. From the looks of it the po worked at Blue diamond and it must have sat in a almond orchard.. when i went to dmv they said its beed non oped since 1990... aside from squirel nest and some moss this baby is like %90 rust free!!!! But unfortunately at the moment im looking to build a shortbed.... i may build this one but the cab and clip will be going on a different frame

Re: Sometimes you forget what you realy love doin

So last night I ent home, called my pops and told him i needed to get the cherry picker out of his old shed...... Man that home made hoist has come in handy.. while i was there I grabbed my engine stand , and headed for home... When i got home I proceeded to remove my four cab mounts,, groundstraps steering thingy, brake lines, and other misc crap from the cab.. I was honestly surprised how simple it was.. i hope swapping tht sm tranny for an auto will be that easy!! at least i have the donor truck!!!.. well heres some pics of my 5 min mod to my hoist...Every now and again as i was pulling on the hoist i pictured that damn 2x4 hitting me straight in the face ....

Eyes are watering a bit just thinking of the friggen pain from when I did it. I'm not good with eye problems, glad I don't have to wear contacts! Made me appreciate a good helmet and protective clothing that summer.

Re: Sometimes you forget what you realy love doin

Si I really wishg i was better at this build thread thing.. I just get so engulfed in doing the actual work . that i forget to take many pics.... As of my last update.. my truck now contains a th 350. Got the frame cleaned up with some PURPLWE POER, gaso;line a bunch of brushes , power washer, clr and about 4 evenings... I still need to find or cut down my two piece drive like and find a yoke.. hook up tranny cooler lines.. ..
As im sitting there having another , what the &^%$ did i get into moment.. I felyt as if i was getting nowhere.. i dewcided to get the donor cab on th edamn truck.. My onlyt isse was getting it from th eback yard to the front byu myself, like i mentioned before, if i call the homies. th ecold ones will flow!!!.. So I examined my options. .. I can weld up a quick towbar and jusdt pull it outa the back and around to the front... thatll take me all day to make that tow bar.. all i have is a swazall and a grinder, plus my lil fluxcore wire feed. option two.. i could just remove my chainlink fence on my side yard which i welded the toprail on because i m cheap.... but my other cap and clip would have to be moved and again it was just me3 and the boy...o after carefull consideration . i remembered i had that dang trailer i scored bout 3 years ago by a dumpster... score!!!!.,. si i hooked iot up and threw the hoist in the truck and drove around the back .. layed down some plywood so iI can get the hoist to roll at least a little bit.. Longstory short .. it was a blast and i almost lost the damnc cab while loading it on the trailer .. but shes on there now..
