Picked up another Buick

Found it on CL. I expected disappointment but don't have any regrets. It's a 1967 Special. It has the 455 transplant. I was told the motor and trans both have 3k on a rebuild. The sellers 16 y/o son bought the car. He was not supposed to drive it yet but sneaked it out one night and put it in a ditch. It messed up the fender, hood & rear 1/4 panel. Nothing too bad. He said that the car is rust free. I still questioned him since I've never seen a rust free A-body. Truth be spoken it is original and no rust. I do not know any engine specs but was told it has a mild cam. It has a performer intake with a 650 eb carb. It goes like a raped ape. It will pretty much break traction at any speed if I have the courage. I hit a snag transferring the title today. I paid $3700.00 for it and the state (need to be careful discussing this as it could become political) Put a $9700.00 value on it and I have to pay or prove them wrong. I need to have it appraised, provide repair estimates and a signed affidavit by the seller.

Big block or small block? I still could use a psp pracket for the Skylark. It also has a 455.

Yes I am waiting for a catch. 300 lbs of rust in the driveway? Not sure but I'm stoked thus far.

Nice Buick! Hope that kid learned his lesson...

Wouldn't a bill of sale / affidavit settle the value thing? Around here they ask what condition it's in and let you think about it for a minute...

No idea, i bought just the body to build and never got the title. Quarters are rusty rest of car is nice. Good 2dr doors, front clip, trunk lid, glass, some interior etc.

Not original paint. I 'm not crazy about the orange sherbet thing but it will do.

I headed over to a friends house yesterday to help put a motor in his mustang. Motor went in and so did the tranny. We turned our attention to some rear end noise in my Buick. After laying in the driveway for a few hours in freezing temps we changed out the axle bearings. Too dang cold

To back up a little I drove the front tires up on ramps, then jacked the back and lowered it on stands. I put the car in gear and got the tiers spinning pretty good. Then I put it in neutral and killed the engine so we could listen. Later after lowering the back I was torquing the rear lugs when the car came down off the ramps. Yep I left it in neutral The best I could do was to sling my arm over the open trunk compartment and try to stop it. I went for a ride. It cost me a sprained right ankle and a skinned left knee. I had no idea that I had a sprain until I warmed up. The good news is that I managed to stop the Buick 4-6" from the side of my buddies car.

Later we did an outlaw run. I ran a regretable 16.4 1/4 mile. The car has some serious traction issues and really needs a ford 9" possi and a set of drag radials. The car pretty much wants to spin the tires at any speed fro 0-60. My buddy and I are guessing it should run in the 13's after addrerssing the traction issues.

Re: Picked up another Buick

Went for a quick spin today. Today it seems to hesitate out of first gear so I never really got to put my foot into it Maybe a sticky needle valve or too small of a carb?

I handled up on the PPW. I got my way Not sure what they were .

I found a couple "Special" fender badges for her. I also added 455 emblems. I told my BIL that I gave up the element of surprise by adding the them He said that the sound already gave up 75% of my secret

Why did the state put a value on it, did they see it, and/or how did they decide what it was worth? Just seems to me it's worth what you paid for it, glad it went your way.

BTW, I like the orange

In the past the state taxed you on what the price said on the bill of sale. The masses were not totally honest reporting what they actually spent. Now they tax you on the "Fair Market Value" unless you get a sworn affidavit from the seller, repair bills or an appraisal.

The orange is starting to grow on me.

Re: Picked up another Buick

Today I measured and measured. My hope was to make the Buick fit in my other garage. It worked but with no room to spare. It's too tight but for now I'm glad its under cover and locked up. Yay

Re: Picked up another Buick

Finally found some parts! I drove 120 miles and spent 110 bucks. I came home with a repairable fender, hood and wing window latch assembly.

Re: Picked up another Buick

I went a different direction with the fender. I found one in Chicago with some lower fender tip rust. A little more spot putty and another coat of primer and it's good to go.

Re: Picked up another Buick

I also did a couple minor things. I was not able to find a fan shroud for it. The small block 300 one worked OK. I cut in in half and used the bottom of it up side down. Heck it keeps the fingers away from the fan. Next the trunk got some spatter paint then I installed a new truck dash cover. Then some KYB's, brake work and other general things.

No it does not. That car of yours will have enough weight to minimize tire spin. I'm looking at putting an Eaton posi & new 355 R&P's in it. I raced it at Bremerton. I backed off three times and never hooked up. I did get the longest burnout that weekend!
