2 speed Powerglide for a 235 inline?

First post. Great site.

Will a 2 speed power glide tranny mate up to a 235 inline 6 in a '52 p/u?

Re: 2 speed Powerglide for a 235 inline?

passenger cars of the same year had powerglides, basically the same engine too. In 1955 they sold new chevies with that combo. In fact, the glide didn't have any rear mounts and they were made of cast iron.
I suggest you research a rear trans mount and make an adapter to install a rear frame crossmember to support the powerglide.
BUT
If I were you, I would install a 700R4 with an adapter plate and a crank spacer. That will make your '52 get up and roar.

235 with a Powerglide you need an engine adapter also. They can be hard to find and sometimes pricey if you do find one. You can do a 230 or 250 and use a Powerglide, 700r4 or most any Chevy automatic with no adapter. If your going auto then you may want to think about taking advantage of the later model OD transmissions.

The real problem with a Powerglide is that the engine has to really wind up in 1st then shifts to drive. That's great for drag racing but a PIA after a while on the street. If you have loud mufflers on the truck it sounds like your racing at every stop light.

Re: 2 speed Powerglide for a 235 inline?

Look at the tranny gear ratios. When I changed out my 64 PG for a TH350 first gear was the same as if I changed out the 3.08 rear end for a 3.54. Around town it seemed like the PG was always searching for the right gear. Unless you are going to spend a lot of time on the highway, get a 3 or 4 speed auto, your choice. Adapting to the 235 will be the same work for which ever your choose.

I think that's the best way to describe it. Never quite the right gear. The PG always seemed to be looking for second gear that its younger brother ended up with.

Re: 2 speed Powerglide for a 235 inline?

Thanks for all the good advice.

Will a Turbo350 or a 700R4 bolt right onto the 235 "6"?

Thanks!

Nothing bolts on to a 235 without an adapter or bolt on bell housing
You need something like this

Why do companies not put their prices on their web pages?

they figure the chances of purchase i higher if they make contact with you because "one-off" parts can cause sticker shock! 235 engines are slugs in stock form with automatic! i have driven 235/pg combo and both were fresh rebuilds and well not very impressive.
