89 Crew Cab Short Bed

Well I have accumulated several pictures of the little things I've done to the truck since I've got it. So, I thought I'd go ahead and start a thread.

The truck started life as an 89 R2500 long bed 3+3. It has a 454/TH400, which has been converted to carb. The PO apparently was having some issues with the TBI, so he just pulled it off and cut the harness .

The PO had already done the short wheelbase and 1/2 ton conversions when I purchased the truck from him.

Here are a few pics from when I first got the truck.

Re: 89 Crew Cab Short Bed

One of the first things I did was to replace the "dumbo" mirrors with a set of sport mirrors. I also replaced the cracked grille and headlight bezels with new ones.

Re: 89 Crew Cab Short Bed

I also wanted to get it a little lower, so I installed a set of 3" Drop spindles from DJM. While I had the front end apart, I replaced all the ball Joints, tie rods, idler and pitman arms.

Re: 89 Crew Cab Short Bed

After driving it for a few months and growing tires of the 22s rubbing the inner fenders, I ordered an air ride system from board member way2lo2. Im using 2600 AirLift Dominators on the front with standard cups on bottom and plates on top. In the rear are AirLift sleeve bags in an air over leaf setup. For air supply Im using a pair of VIAIR 450s with a 7 gallon tank.
Here are a few pics of the C notch....I sometimes forget to take pics when I start working

Re: 89 Crew Cab Short Bed

I wanted to keep the air system simple and affordable, So I went with the AirLift 1/4" Manual paddle valves. I mounted them in the bottom of the dash below the radio, and they are barely even noticable. I fabbed a mount for the dual needle gauges in the ash tray.

Re: 89 Crew Cab Short Bed

I wanted to retain the stock bed floor and heat and a/c, so this is about as low as I could feasibly go with the 22s.

Next on the list is some bodywork, and some sort of EFI engine swap

Re: 89 Crew Cab Short Bed

Think I've seen the truck on CL, for some reason McAlester or Muskogee or Wagoner are all popping in to my head.

Very sleek truck though! Like the looks of it with the sport mirrors. Knocking the dents out and giving it fresh paint will make it an awesome truck.

I bought it from a guy in McAlester, he had it on craigslist several times.

Re: 89 Crew Cab Short Bed

Glad to see it fell in to good hands then! I knew it looked very familiar. There are more and more square crews with short beds these days, but they still stick out when I see them.

Just planning on updating the interior and a decent paintjob. This is very much a budget build as well as a daily driver
