Re: 4L80e controler?

I'm using the Baumann Optishift. I suggest getting the wiring harness with it as well. I got mine from Jake (recommended by you guys here on the forum in other posts).

Here is info on the controller:

And here is where I bought it:

Jake has been very responsive to questions that I've had regarding the unit as well.

Re: 4L80e controler?

Thanks for the help. I will have to check this out. The price is better also. How long have you been running it and have you had any problems? I will hit Jake up about this also but do you know if this will control the 6L80?

Re: 4L80e controler?

I've been running one for about 8 months now. I also helped others install and program them. It takes some tuning to get it just right but I'll tell you what, once it's dialed in, it shifts better than any other 4L80E I've ever seen (much better than factory if you ask me!). It does come with some default tables that work out of the box to at least get you going.

One of my favorite pros is the LED display -- it can show a variety of things, such as current gear (demanded and actual), converter lockup, trans temp, speed, etc. Plus it allows you to change some settings without a laptop. One con is that this box must be mounted in a protected location. It is not weather-proof. I mounted mine on the side of the glove compartment. But it's really small and light. And I can open up the glove compartment door and see the display while I'm driving if needed. Otherwise it remains hidden inside.

The only problem I'm chasing down is that when the converter locks, the speedo signal gets noisy and causes my Cable-X to freak out. I'm running a complicated setup with a Cable-X to drive the speedo, so I think I just have a ground issue or a signalling issue. It really doesn't concern me right now since I have other issues with the truck (non-transmission related) that are more important to finish up first. And I have multiple wiring options for hooking up the Cable-X, so I just need to do some experimenting.

I have no idea about the 6L80E. But if I were to guess, I'd say no. That's quite a new trans. I have that same trans in my 2011 Caprice. It's a great trans. But I would be surprised if aftermarket controllers are prolific for it yet. Baumann might have it planned, you'd have to ask Jake or Baumann directly.
