Tell me about my truck.

I was looking at my truck and trying to decide what direction to take the resto of my truck. (Truck in avatar). I was thinking about an originial resto and had questions about what my truck would have looked like new. The po did a cheapo paint job.

Here's the spid info;

MODEL CE10734

BX2 B SIDE MLDG=WIDE LWR
C60 AIR COND-ALL WEATHER
G50 HD REAR SPRING
M49 TURBO HYDRAMATIC
PO1 WHEEL COVERS
UO8 DUAL HORN
753 AMMETER-OIL GUAGE
597 WHT & YEL & WHT

A11 TINTED GLASS
?89 BODY SIDE MOULDING
?29 R/V MIRROR-JR-? ? ?
LS9 350 CU IN V-8 ENGINE
?40 POWER STEERING
P13 S/M WHEEL CARRIER
U63 RADIO-PUSH BUTTON
Z62 CUST COMF & CONV ? ?
623 GOLD CUST CLOTH TRM

If you know any of the missing option digits, I'd appreciate the correct ones.
I also want to know what the wheel covers look like.
Could someone post a pic of what the gold cust cloth trim was?
and lastly, could someone photoshop the paint scheme, I'd really appreciate that.

Thanx in advance,
Dano

Re: Tell me about my truck.

This is what your truck might have looked like, as far as paint and mouldings. I think you had 520 yellow. I don't know if the truck in the pic is light yellow 525 or yellow 520 but I think the pattern is right.
Your missing RPO codes are;
?89 is B85
?29 is D29
?40 is N40
you can get the descriptions here http://outintheshop.com/options.html

Re: Tell me about my truck.

Great pic!

Thanx,
I couldn't imagine the upper side moulding in solid paint. I always thought moulding was used to separate paint colors.

Re: Tell me about my truck.

Dano, I'm not real sure, but I think painting that inner side panel started in 1971 with the 400 series paint code numbers. Also is your truck a 69 or 70. I assumed 69 from your screen name.

Yes, that was a great job! I figured out his wheelbase before you posted it. I know how I did it and I am curious if you did it the same way? I'll call you this week so we can talk about it. I have some other off board news to.

Tim, do you have a pic of 623 or the PO1 for 69?

Re: Tell me about my truck.

Ok, 520 yellow is also right for 70 so same yellow as in the 69 chip above. 597 is the two tone code for 520 yellow and 521 white.

Re: Tell me about my truck.

This should about cover everything for you. PM an email address for the full size paste ups. Remember this trim level would have a painted front bumper as well. It would almost look better with painted hubcaps to tie in with the white paint and the painted mirrors. Though whitewall tires and PO1s have a classic look too.

Re: Tell me about my truck.

The paint combos shown are correct, since White is listed first and last. But,your Custom would only have lower mouldings. Are you considering going back to a Fleetside?

Re: Tell me about my truck.

Morning Tim! The truck has both the lower molding (BX2) required for the Special Two-Tone and the upper/belt (B85) molding on his SPID. Good question about intent on the bed. '70 stepside would not get the Special Two-tone or the upper and lower body side moldings. Still could be a conventional two-tone though.

Re: Tell me about my truck.

Thanx a million SS Tim! If you ever get down to one of our meets, dinner on me!

It is kinda sad how the original owner destroyed/hacked this beautiful truck.

I'm gonna go with a original resto with some mods/ variations;

1) Original paint scheme with lower mouldings only. Try to determine the correct fender emblems and glove box emblem.
2) Original interior colors, except for steering wheel and dash pad (undecided).
3) Original wheel covers with chrome bumpers. If wheel covers cannot be found, then painted blue bowtie hubaps w/ painted bumpers.
4) Find a 3:07 rear end or go to a th2004r od tranny.
5) No rv mirrors, just painted c-10 mirrors.
6) aftermarket ac/heat system.
7) No spare tire holder.
8) 3/4 drop.
9) Go back to a fleetside bed with steel floor.
10) Under bed fuel tank.

Re: Tell me about my truck.

Does anyone know what color steering wheel and dash pad would have come with this interior?
Would the grille have been painted to match the painted bumpers?

Re: Tell me about my truck.

No painted grilles after '68. I didn't notice the upper trim spec'd on the SPID. Your steering wheel would have been the Sandalwood color. The emblems would be Custom/10 and the glovebox door would have Chevrolet Custom on it. I don't think I've ever seen a '70 with the Gold interior, just '69s.

Re: Tell me about my truck.

The emblems are easy, Custom/10, 8 350, Chevrolet/Custom.

The gold vinyl is not an "off the shelf" color selection going to have to hunt some. The cloth is likely going to have to come from SMS. The dash pad, column and wheel are sandalwood see the Ditzler color codes below. Also below is a 625 GMC interior, same colors but vinyl and done up the GMC ways, still a great color reference. Again PM an email for some big pictures this interior will floor you.

The outer grill is the standard aluminum color with both painted and chrome bumpers.

Hey Lee!
I have my work cut out for me, but at least I have a vision of the finished product.

Unfortunately, all that remains of the interior is the original dash pash (cracked to hell). It looks light tan, but that is probably due to sun fading.

It also has the original steering column (steering wheel is gone).

Re: Tell me about my truck.

You've got a great truck to begin the process with. Knock a little out at a time. Start buying a few parts a month and before long you'll have it done.

So it should look basically like the GMC on the lower left. It would look nice either with chrome,PO1s,whitewalls. Or just white wheels, caps and bumpers. Maybe a set of redlines too.
