Radiator/Fan Question

My truck has the original radiator and a big plastic shroud that is attached that surrounds the fan. The motor is a sb 350.

I'm thinking about replacing the radiator with an aluminum one and was wondering if that fan shroud (if that's what it's called) is necessary. I don't see it in too many other pictures of engines.

The engine temp runs between 180 and 200 when warmed up. Would removing this increase the engine temp?

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Radiator/Fan Question

I take it back, I do see this in a lot of builds. I just went through the thread about "show me you engine compartment" and it's there. Guess for a good reason.

Re: Radiator/Fan Question

I live in Texas, gets really hot here. I have a aluminum radiator and no shroud and mine runs fine.

Re: Radiator/Fan Question

Your cooling system will always cool more efficiently with a shroud and a properly placed fan. There is a reason that GM installed them from the factory.
