Is it ok if front and rear gear ratios are different?
I have a 1969 K20 4x4 I just changed the rear gears to 3:73 and the fronts have the old 4:56s. Does this mean I can't use the 4 WD with different ratios?

Correct don't use the 4wd untill you get matchng gear ratios.

You will have some serious problems if your front/rear ratios are different and you engage 4WD.

Those serious problems would include severe binding at the very least, and major parts breakage is a very real possibility. It would be undriveable.

You could go with different size tires front and rear. You would have to compute the circumference that would work with the different ratios. I don't know how to do this though. Otherwise don't use 4 wheel drive.

Breaking stuff may be the least of your worries. You will lose control and possibly wreck, hopefully just the truck and not you or someone else.
Change the front when you can. In the meantime don't use 4wd. You may want to pull the front drive shaft just to be safe.

I think if you use 38 inch tires on the 3.73 axle, and 31 inch tires on the 4.56 axle you'd be okay
