Disc brake conversion - master cylinder

I was looking at the ECE brake conversion for my 70 c10. I noticed it comes with a new dal pot master cylinder, proportioning valve and a new line that needs to be bent. I seem to have all those parts already so do I have to replace them? Is there something different about those parts made specifically for disc brakes? Below is a picture of my current setup.

Re: Disc brake conversion - master cylinder

That is not a proportioning valve, its just a distribution block so you will need the prop valve.

My mom always had the best advice. It was just a tad late. After a fall that involved blood, she'd say....."Careful!"

not knocking ECE, but check out GMCPauls also. They have a pretty good deal on there brake conversion kits. The proportioning valve is different (disc/drum). From research I have done, there are different M/C's for power and non power. And I also believe the lines are different from when I was looking thru LMC's parts catalog. I bought a complete setup from a member here on the forum. All the lines, M/C, brake booster, and pedal setup.

Re: Disc brake conversion - master cylinder

what year is your truck? If pre-71, you'll need the master cylinder, prop valve, and new lines - the disk/drum master normally has different size reservoirs and the prop valve has a job to do between disk/drum setup. If you happen to have an early 71 that still has dual drum, then will need it all for that as well. Disks were supposed to be an option on 71's (reference the disk brake option sticker on 71 tailgates) but I'd swear they became standard by the end of the year (can't prove it, just a theory). Also, front/rear brake line size is normally different between disk and drum. So, I'd go for the whole kit. I've never had a problem with ECE or POL. CCP has good stuff, but have heard a few folks complain on here about it. But I think there is a rep on the board.
