82-87 ls swap headers?

Iv seen a couple threads on this and didn't get any answers, what fits and what doesn't, who makes direct fits, I'm doing a 6.0 swap in an 83 swb and don't wana hold up the swap to modify exhaust, I know that 10-12 camaro shorties will work but I want long tubes that clear with little to no work, with dingo truck mounts. Any help at all would b helpfull, oh and the truck has a 6in lift if it matters.

Re: 82-87 ls swap headers?

Assuming it has a lift would usually mean its 4x4, currently the only 4x4 headers that are designed for this swap are.... herron performance headers i think is their name and i dont think any other header fits without having some sort of problem but maybe someone found a solution by now

Re: 82-87 ls swap headers?

Thanks, I'm actually looking at some schoenfelds, I think they can work on my swap, and half the price.

Re: 82-87 ls swap headers?

No problem. I went with these cause they are coated and I already wasted money on a set that I thought would fit. And I had been on shon for over a year about 73-87 headers. I would have felt bad if I bought a set from someone else after all the nagging i did to him.

Re: 82-87 ls swap headers?

You didnt say what trans your are running, for what it is worth I've had a lot of issues with this swap. I'm doing 6.0 (dirtydingo mounts) nv4500 Np205 swap now and the issue I'm running into is the external slave cyclinder. The stock truck manifolds fit the frame but hit the slave. I tried the GTO manifolds, and they hit the motor mounts, and the 2010 - 2012camaro manifolds dropped directly onto the slave. I ordered speedway motors block hugger headers that should be here today, we will see if they fit. the stock truck and camaro mainfoldsboth fit great with the dirty dingo mounts. I know your looking for headers but I wanted to get the info out there.

I dont mean to hijack this thread but im running into the same problem with my truck. The stock 5.3 ls manifolds gm sells hit the slave cylinder on my tranny (SM465). I also used the dirty dingo mounts and they work great, i just need to find either manifolds or headers that will pass through without hitting anything. I know there is a thread on here ( K5 "Arctic Blaze" H.O. 5.3 / SM465 swap ) where he made it happen. So has some good info. My computer at work doesnt allow me to see the pictures so Ill have to look at it when I get home.

Re: 82-87 ls swap headers?

I am running a 4l60e and a 208, I'm not sure of what clears the manual linkages, I have read thru most of the build threads and other faq's on here and on ls1 tech and a lot of people are using the Doug thorleys, I don't mind spending the money but I just wanted black headers and want to jet coat them to match the rest of the truck, I'm not big on the shiney and stainless look that's why I was looking at the shoenfelds for the two wheel drive but can't get a rep to talk to me to find out what they hit exactly or why they won't fit so I can see how hard it will be to modify and then do as I like with. The dt's are over 6 hundred and would hate to spend that kind of money and not like the way they look. I have been doing a very patient build and am jus needing options befor I shell out that kinda doe, I realy want longtubes but I jus want them to match the black theme. How far along are u guys on ur swaps, I love following all the builds and pics of other people's rides. Thanks for the replies and let me know what u come up with!

Re: 82-87 ls swap headers?

I fit up the Speedway motors Headers last night and they fit great. They clear the dirty dingo motor mounts and frame. and give plenty of clearance for the clutch slave cyclinder. Not bad for $160; good quality welds and nothing is damaged.

Re: 82-87 ls swap headers?

Haven't posted in a while, been super busy. Got my shoenfelds and they clear everything but haven't fit them in my truck yet, had some family stuff going on and been taking care of that. I'm sure that the headers will fit my swap but not happy with how they sit on the motor, the drivers side is lower than the passengers side but other than that they look great. I am in contact with shoenfelds r and d and trying to feed them info as I get it. I almost think that if they mirrored the drivers side they would b perfect but I'm waiting to get them in the truck to do some measuring and take some pics for them.

Re: 82-87 ls swap headers?

Week the schoenfelds fit like a glove. Plenty of clearance and look great. The only thing that is a little off it the o2 is kinda close to the left spring shackle and the right header collector sits towards the back a little further than the left but all things I can live with. I'm going to contact schoenfeld tomarow and see if they wana do an equal length for the collector's or not. These headers can be ceramic coated for an extra 250 which still puts them cheeper than thorleys and others I've seen. If u are jus wanting headers for ur 2 or 4wd and not picky on looks then I highly suggest these, and the price is under 300 and I had them in 3 days.
