C30 Brake Parts

I am trying to find brake parts for my 71 C30. I have located a Wagner part number BD60442 for the front rotors, but nowhere seems to be be able to obtain them locally. Books show the part number as available but can't order it. Having no luck on drums. Truck is a dually. Any info would be appeciated.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

Have you tried NAPA? Had a P/N for the fronts then realized they were for a Longhorn not a DRW.

NAPA has been looking. They have a listing for them and they are not discontinued, but can't seem to order. Maybe I will have some updates today.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

You will not find the rear drums unless you can find a low miles C30 motor home out there somewhere. They are a 2 year only drum, 71-72. I picked up a Dana 70 dually axle to put into my 71 C30 motor home the moment she gives me a reason. All the parts are still available and less expensive than the 40 year old extinct HO-72. I haven't needed front discs yet so I can't help you with that. But I would swap in the 73-87 front parts if finding the 71-72s are a problem.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

Ive been down that road. No longer available. I am going to use 73+ even if I have to change the diff and spindles.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

I have been striking out on the rotors everywhere. From what I understand a newer 75-85 rotor will mount up, but the disc itself it almost 1/4" thicker. I doubt if its as simple as swapping in the newer calipers.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

Need to do a site search on lowering an early C30. Pretty sure it is the ball joints out as I recall to do the swap. To pick up an extra quarter inch of rotor would be worth the effort.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

Gonna have to do some reasarch on that swap. There was a guy working on a c30 on the board about a month ago, putting on 22" wheels on a former wrecker. He got rotors from somewhere, either by getting lucky and finding someone with them on the shelf, or maybe he did the 73-87 swap. There are plenty of newer 1 tons in junkyards around here so finding the spindles would be fairly easy. Parts for the 73-87 have always been plentiful and cheap.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

i would just go ahead and see if you could convert it to the 73-87 chevy brakes. parts will be much cheaper.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

I put a 75 C30 front under my 67 C30. It's pretty much just like the 71+ disc swap for the half tons onto a drum front.
I have the rearend too, but haven't swapped that over yet. I wanted the larger brakes that the 75 offered.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

71swb4x4 did you swap in the entire front suspension from the 75 or just the spindles like SS Tim said?

Re: C30 Brake Parts

We swapped it all, I actually went to hydroboost from the same truck. But, IIRC everything was interchangable. We had a control arm that was completely worn out so we used the one from the 67. Since we were in there, we replaced all the wear parts.

I went from power drums, to hydroboost discs.

I think you can go spindles out and you will be fine with parts matching up.

Re: C30 Brake Parts

Well I got lucky on this brake rotor issue (for now). A local junkyard had a 72 c30, actually a gmc 3500, and suprisingly the rotors were in nice shape with only light surface rust. We mic'ed them and they had plenty of meat left. So with a light cut they were good to go. I need to gather a pair of 73+ c30 spindles for the next time around.

So the old beast is back in business once again.
