Re: anyone using or used a Pertronix distributor?

I think they make a good product
Mine is back at Pertronix getting a physical
My only compliant is it is a smidge taller than an msd and dropping into the big block without it hitting the arch in the firewall requires holding your tongue just right
Make sure you get a good 12V to the system - often times the wire from the factory has a built in resistor that causes fits for any of the aftermarket units

I had 2 bad experiences with their HEI distributor. I will not buy any of their products again.

Re: anyone using or used a Pertronix distributor?

I'd rather spend a little bit more and get a better quality product.

What's not quality about Pertronix?

I agree, I sent mine off (independent shop) and had the curve matched to stock GM spec's. I thought I had a problem with the module years ago, sent my petronix billet distributer back to them for a check-up. It was good, turned out to be the carb. No charge for the service, they paid for everything. No questions asked. Been running for about 5 years, no issues.

I gave 'em a try, I really did. Had 2 Ignitor I units and an Ignitor II unit toast on me in various vehicles, had a 3-month old Pertronix CD box die and the gear failed on the Pertronix distributor I put in my Fairlane.

A lot of guys like and use Pertronix gear, but I see them as inferior quality due to personal track record.

I'd go with the Pertronix and never look back. Having run both Pertronix and MSD, I like them both.

Only 2 people in here have bad experiences, and one of them I would say isn't "credible."

I've used the Pertronix Ignitor (undercap) units on 3 different trucks. They've been easy to install and have always worked great...no problems, no failures.
I'd buy their products again.
My two bits.

What is not creditable, about voicing your personal experience, about a product? I have run a few of the drop in units, without too many issues....while I hear others with complaints? The last drop in that I used, went 10-12 yrs....but after the "feedback', I think I will opt for a points trigger, with an MSD 6-AL box? crazyL

I did the same and the unit failed. Started running eratic at mid to upper RPMs. The factory points worked much better after the Petronix failed in about a month. Similiar experience on my buddies Mustang. His unit wouldn't go past 4k RPM on a 4v 351 Cleveland motor. He ended up using factory Ford pards to make an electronic ignition to replace his dual point unit.
