The Good, The Bad, The Ugly . . .

First Off Let me introduce myself,

I am a newby to this whole Chevy C10 thing I have always really liked these trucks and finally decided to jump in it while there are still a few around that I can almost afford (barely) and wont have to end up getting a divorce over it (its not done yet).

Anyways I started lookin for one a few months back and ran across a bunch of trucks that were either Way to big of a project than I was ready for or Cost Way too much. . . Or both!

Im sure you are all aware that once the serious rust (and idiots) get a hold of these bodies you can be in for some fairly serious metal work. Not being very experienced with bodywork I was trying to avoid or limit this as much as possible. That being said every one I found had it in the rockers and door jams to various degrees and many had bad floors of the bed and cab. Most of them looked like they had some hard lives or may be straight but other than that were just shells a good cab here or there, fenders here/there but nothing worked/no runny/no title/etc . . .I was about to shelve it or give it up completely.

In other words: I was looking for preferably 69-72, SWB, clean, operable, running, driving, straight, non-rust havin, titled, Cheap . . . . You can imagine how this worked out . . .

Anyway this is what I ended up with: 1972 Chevy C10 Deluxe, Fleetside, LWB

The Good:

The Bad

The Ugly

Im not sure what the final direction will be with this old truck but most immediately is slowing/stopping the rust and beginning to start to close up some of these holes. Thanks for Looking . . .

Thumbs up Re: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly . . .

Welcome! I can see the pics OK, looks like a pretty good truck with a few problem areas. Good luck fixing it, it would be beyond my capabilities but I've seen many here on the board go from far worse to eye-popping great!

Welcome. Looks like you have a good place to start. Finding these trucks with perfect cabs and sheet metal is not completely impossible, just very expensive.

Get your welding skills tuned up and have some fun. For me, it would be boring to spend $20,000 + on a truck that does not need anything. I enjoy working on them as much as I do driving them.

You are in a good place. Plenty of knowledge and help here.

welcome......gonna be a fun project. Rust repair comes second to mechanical.....If I see the real wheel right in the picture.....change out the 6 bolt rear to a 5 bolt to match a true 72 c10

welcome. i don't suppose you have a highlander on your hands, do you? Has the correct door panels, and a parchment seat pokin out from under the covering...
Does the SPID call out plaid seat trim or perhaps special promo package? Just curious. yes, you have your work cut out for you - but what better way to learn. I think when you're done, you'll appreciate it even more for all the effort you will have put in by then.

From the handle its a Hurst on a GM 4 speed other that what is says on the trans and sifter I dont know anything about the trans. It looks new and has a Very heavy clutch spring and some real tight gear gates compared to my old sports cars anyways. It seems to be a good setup but wears me out driving it on city streets.

Im not real sure but I do really like the OEM Seat Pattern the Blue and White is appealing

the seat is in fairly good shape bit the stiching has come apart on the drivers side.

All in all I really like the truck. Really low miles nice and straight, good color scheme, Price. But the rust really bothers me bad . . .

Re: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly . . .

Very nice truck and a good place to start. There are many links in the site to fixing rust issues that include links on where to find the correct parts and such. Start small and take it easy. You will gain lots of experience and have a rewarding project as well. Get the mechanical issues worked out so it is safe and fun to drive and then take care of the body as time and $$ allows.

Good luck!

Re: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly . . .

Thanks!

Im just in planning phase at this point trying to organize. Been making a spreadsheet of everything that needs to be done, steps , bought, the cost, who has it etc. Hopefully this will keep me on track to getting things done instead of just monkeying around and hopefully will start making some headway.

If I am going to start document the work being done to it I should probably put it over in the project section?
