Dana 60 leaf spring pad spacing

I have a Dana 60 from a 69 3/4ton 2wd for sale. I guy contacted me about it and wanted to know the spacing for the spring pads, so I measured it at 42-3/8" from center bolt to center bolt.

He said his 3/4ton 4x4 is at 40".

Is this correct, or did one of us mis-measure?

Re: Dana 60 leaf spring pad spacing

I think 4x4 leafs are 2.5 inch... 1/4 inch wider than the 2x4 leafs, but the mounts and pads should be the same width center to center.. I think he is measuring between the pads which makes sense because he is about 2.5 inches shorter than you...roughly half a 2.5 inch leaf on each side...

Re: Dana 60 leaf spring pad spacing

Yes, some of the earlier axles were spaced wider at 42.5". My 70 GMC C2500 has the Dana 60HD spaced at 42.5", also. There are some other threads on here talking about this.

Re: Dana 60 leaf spring pad spacing

Both 4X4's and longhorns (3/4 ton & 1 ton) had straight frames and use the same spacing at
40" ..
2WD frames are "bowed out" at the rear end and do measure at 42.5"

Re: Dana 60 leaf spring pad spacing

It's been awhile since I measured my 3/4 dana 60 leaf rear but I remember it being around 42" so it must be the 42 and 3/8" mentioned above. Oh yeah it's a 2wd.

Right, so to find the center distance subtract the width of one spring and you will get ~ 40", which apparently is correct for the Longhorn.

Re: Dana 60 leaf spring pad spacing

I ran into this exact problem today. I took a Dana 60 from a '70 3/4 ton 2wd and put under the rear of a '72 1/2 ton 4wd chassis, and I can't bolt it up right now because the spring pads on the Dana 60 are spaced farther apart than the springs are on the 4wd...
