Summit Headers

Has anyone used them on an SBC? They're $115.

Obviously they're not super great, but I'm thinking if they're good enough it's cheap power.

Re: Summit Headers

With out a link its hard to say but I'm running a set of summit long tubes on my truck. They've been on just under a year with no leaks yet. I did switch out the paper gaskets for a set of the soft aluminum gaskets from advanced auto.

I wish the flange was 3/8", but oh well. Also, the truck headers are 1 1/2" primaries, car headers are 1 5/8". This winter I'll be putting a good cam and Edelbrock Performer RPM intake in, and while the 1 1/2" primaries will give me plenty of torque, will they choke the motor off too soon?

Re: Summit Headers

For just $45.00 more I would go with these from Hedman

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-69230/overview/

They work much better on the 4x4's

Beat me to it...... Most of the summit brand stuff is reboxed name brand stuff. I live right down the street from summit, so I buy a lot of stuff from them. I just installed a set of summit brand shorties on a friends truck and the instructions were pacesetter's. The box even had a summit sticker over the pacesetter part #. If they are in fact flow techs, I've run those many times without a problem.

Re: Summit Headers

I'd like to put nicer ones on but these will only be on for about a year, then comes the LS swap, with good headers.

Thanks guys!

Re: Summit Headers

Primary tube diameter for the summit/flowtechs are 1.5" whereas the tube diameter for the hedmans are 1 5/8" FYI

Re: Summit Headers

My truck came with an old set of summit headers. Non ceramic and were rusted to hell. Swapped them out with the same headers, but ceramic this time and they're nice. No fitment issues, though they do come very close to hitting the frame in certain spots. I can tell the ceramic coating isn't that great, cause im already seeing a bit of pitting on the passenger side header. And as someone said, they're just re boxed flowtechs for cheaper. But they work and are good. I couldn't see spending $300+ on headers unless they're just amazing. I have some pics I can put up.

Re: Summit Headers

Durability isn't really a concern, as they'll probably only be on the truck for a year or so. I'd probably paint them with some VHT header paint too.

My truck came with an older set of ceramic coated Summit headers... and were somewhat rusted; it wasn't a great ceramic coating. I ended up removing them, but only for an engine swap. Fitment was pretty good.
