Whats the difference in the doors?

I am needing to replace the doors on my 70 stepside and I've looked in several catalogs and they list 67-71 doors together and 72 doors separately. I think I have found some used doors on Craig's list but I want to make sure they will fit. Is there a difference in the doors from 67-71 to 72 or will a 1972 door fit on the earlier years? Is there a way to tell what year truck the doors came off of? Thanks for any help yall can offer.

Re: Whats the difference in the doors?

One thing that's different is that there's a hole on the inside right below the vent window for a screw to strengthen the whole vent window assembly.

Re: Whats the difference in the doors?

The 72 has a different inner door panel. It is not made of metal

Re: Whats the difference in the doors?

I think the difference has to do with the door panel and arm rest attachment. I have a 70-71-and 72 in my shop I will try to check it out today. I'm sure someone who knows more will clarify it by then though.

Re: Whats the difference in the doors?

In terms of the actual door "working" on the truck, nothing is different.

As mentioned above, there is a screw hole below the vent for strength, no big deal. I have 72 doors on my 67 right now.

It's been a long time since I swapped mine (used to have 72 door panels on 67 doors before I swapped doors) , but I do think there are different holes for where the door panels attach. You can make either 67-71 or 72 door panels work. The arm rests attach at the same spot using the same screw holes on all doors. You may have to weld up some of the big holes for the 72 door panel clips to use the screws for the 67-71 doors, but you could just always use the 72 door panels, they look cool.

Another thing to note, the door handle and window regulators have a longer shaft for the 72 doors so they stick out of the thicker door panels. You need 72 regulators to use 72 door panels and 67-71 regulators for the 67-71 panels (you can use the longer ones, but they'll stick out too far.)

Re: Whats the difference in the doors?

Thanks for everyone's help! I was worried about the doors not fitting but after reading the responses, I'm not concerned about the fit anymore. I knew someone out there would know the answer!

Re: Whats the difference in the doors?

In addition to whats mentuoned above, 67 doors have different angles for attaching the outer door handles.
