Re: LS1 with a 6 Speed

I plan on running a T56 in my 67. It came factory with the 4 speed so its setup for the manual. Biggest thing to consider when going to the 4L60e is the controller. I think the aftermarket has stand alone contollers. If not you could swap out the ecm for one out of a slush-box car.

Re: LS1 with a 6 Speed

I want to run a 6-spd bad in my truck. Suppose to be picking up a engine/trans combo this week but its got the 4l80 with it. The deal is too good to pass up but unsure if I'll run the auto or hold out.

My truck currently has a hurst 3-spd on the floor and I love the look and feel.

This is the combination I'm using in my build. I am hoping to have it running by the end of this year. Check out my build.

Re: LS1 with a 6 Speed

Treeboy97, do you have pics of the mid mount that you have?

My concern on swaps I have seen is that the stock T56 location places the shifter back into the bench seat.

Thanks!

Thats my concern also being I just redid my bench seat, I came across a post that a company I think called Kaisler makes a kit to relocate the shifter to the forward plate but to install it looked way over my head the guy had the whole tranny apart. Also read with the right bend in the shifter it clears the bench..

Yes there is a relocate kit. I don't plan on needing it. I may end up modifying or completely making a new shifter. I want to be able to shift like I'm driving a car not a truck..

no price though. And yes it looks like a pro shop would need to install it.

Re: LS1 with a 6 Speed

No pic on the mid shift, but it goes where the inspection cover is. I had it installed while the trans was being rebuilt. I did purchase it from Keisler and no is wasn't cheap but it works well with my bench seat.

Also, here is a great thread.

Re: LS1 with a 6 Speed

i have that combo in my truck. I ended up going with 4.11 gears from my 3.73 gears. The 4l60 I had in for a while was a great driving transmission and made driving easy. I do like the T56 I have now. I guess like all manuals it takes more "effort" to drive but that is why we all convert to the manuals.
The first gear is not as deep as the 4l60 plus the double overdrive is why I swapped to the deeper gears.

Dave ,,,all in all how is the performance with the tranny and gear change? Over the auto with 373s?
Mine has 308s right now and I bought 411s to install, I have about a 27 inch tire on it right now, I was hoping that wasn't to conservative and should of gotton a 430 or 456 to take full advantage of the gearing?

Re: LS1 with a 6 Speed

If I decide to do the 4.8 swap on my 67 GMC it will get a 4L60. I want to slam it in drive and cruise. Rowing gears is fun but if I want to do that I think the 3 speed is a blast to drive. the the 4L60 with hold the power of a 4.8 with twins or a procharger.

If you need a source for a harness and computer to control the trans let me know.
