Re: 7.00x18 wheels

I have a 72 3/4 ton with 17" wheels. I am not sure about the 18". It may be possible on a one ton i suppose. Does your truck have the cst/30 emblems on the fenders? Any pics?
And welcome...

Re: 7.00x18 wheels

Sounds like a pretty neat truck. I think we will need to see pics. Is it in nice shape? What is the engine/trans combo?

Re: 7.00x18 wheels

That sounds like a special truck.A great find for sure.Yes,the 7.00-18/D (8 ply rating)tube types were an option (RPO R90).It should be listed on the SPID if from factory.Does the truck have the big 11,000# rear axle?(RPO H22)

Re: 7.00x18 wheels

The 8 hand hole 8 lug 18" split rim was around since the 40's and used up till the mid 60's, I think '68. The newer style 4 hand hole 8 lug rim 18" split rim is rare in this country, but was popular in Central and South America. It could have been a special order.

Re: 7.00x18 wheels

The 7.00-18s were an option and it sounds like this truck was a special order.Sommeone knew what they wanted.Dual wheels were available in 16,16.5,18,& 19.5".Singles were available in 16 & 16.5".There were quite a few tire choices back then, too.Mostly load range rating differences.

Re: 7.00x18 wheels

Just ask if you can`t figure the pictures.I used a tutorial in FAQ that tought me how to do it from Photobucket.I believe the 11,000# axle was the 5 & 10 pattern (5 front/10 rear) like medium duties.I thought I`d ask, even though I figured you would have mentioned the different lug pattern.
Which motor and transmission did it come with?It could be a 4.10 or 4.57 ratio if it came with a 350 and either the Chevrolet 4spd or Automatic. If it came with a 350,292,or 307 and New Process 4spd it would have 5.14s.

Re: 7.00x18 wheels

my '68 has the 4 whole 8 lug 18" wheels. I would like to find some replacement tires for it or put the equivelent 16" wheel/tires on it. Anyone know what size 16" tire would be the same diameter?

Stay away from the 16", way to small. The 3 piece 18" lock ring wheels are not my wheel of choice either. Go with the solid 19.5" dual type wheel that was the factory option in 1968. They are harder to find, but the 19.5" wheel and tire combo have the same diameter as the 18" lock ring tire and wheel combo. Make sure they are off a 1970 and older vehicle for the same stud size. Can be found on 1970 and older step vans, bread trucks etc.

Re: 7.00x18 wheels

I have a very hard time finding any older vehicles around here. It seems they are way off the beaten path or have been scrapped. My 65 c30 has 16" dollies from the factory on it. I had not seen the 18's until this truck. I will keep my eye out for the 19.5" wheels but will not hold my breath.
