what's the deal with rubber floors no longer being available?

Tried to search for news as to why no rubber floors for '64-'66 small humps are available, but came up empty handed. A few companies still have them posted, but all are back-ordered. The boat from china sink or something?

I really don't want to use carpet in my truck....

When you go to install that PITA "rubber" floor, you will want to use carpet in your truck...stuff is hard and even after all weekend in the summer sun, still hard to work with. Ugh.

I've heard the nightmares on both sides. I think molded floor coverings in general present a problem. I just feel like an old truck doesn't seem right with carpet. At least mine wouldn't feel right with it.

I was going rubber originally, but i was super frustrated.

I didn't want carpet either, and the last high hump rubber mat I purchased was a POS. So I went with a full floor MIP vinyl mat from Auto Custom Carpets/Stock Interiors. It covers the entire floor and was very difficult to install during cold weather, but continues to look like new and is easy to clean up. Details begin at post #219 (page 9) on my build thread.

Near as I can tell the problem with rubber mats is the tools wore out, and no one has stepped up to produce new tooling.

Here are recent photos showing how it looks today. Sometimes in photos it looks medium gray in color, but in real life it is a deep rich black:

i just had a revelation anyone had this thought before? i might just do this on my 63 high hump ...use spray in bed liner just on the floor not the hump??? help protect the outer edges of the floor from rust and keep your feet from sliding around i have not had a mat in mine for years .... i am not building a museum piece but a nice working/driver

I've never tried "Stock interiors" looks like they are able to sell it. Price seems pretty reasonable despite the shipping being $30. Might have to give it a try. Thanks.

sorry i bought the last NOS rubber mat off ebay last yr its for a 62 but fits the same. while folks was going crazy for the 65 mat that sold for $317 i had the 62 in my watch list and it was "buy it now" for $90 shipped still in the original box again sorry!!!

The spray in bedliner is quite comon in the 4x4/offroad world. Although a lot of the spray in bedliners can be quite slick when wet. I wouldn't be afraid to do the entire floor of the cab. Of course you would want to do the removeable floor hump seperately.

Its only slick if they don't put enough of what I call "Grip Mist" its the last thing you do before unwrapping everything. You stand back away from the truck about ten feet and just spray it in the air multiple times and the mist become the grip you need. The only other way it would get slippery is if you were using Armor All type products on it to keep it shiny.

Yes I do bedliners as part of my job.

I would spray up the firewall and over the area where the sill plates go to to protect them. You can also spray the back wall but leave it shiny without traction and paint over it if you want.

The problem with the common "rubber" mats now is that they are more of a kind of vinyl, like siding but a little more flexible. Just plasticy if that's a word, not very rubber. The MarkB's mat is nice and i considered that (especially since my garage is heated and i can leave it like 90 degrees in there for a couple days no problem.) but after i started adding deluxe this and option that, well, there i was with a "bare bones" floor, and everything else upgraded, and exhausted. So, in went carpet. Easy Peasy.

A NOS reproduction (yes NOS reproduction, not GM) 64-66 low hump just sold in the classifieds for $485. I've seen one other reproduction sell on ebay for $340, and a NOS GM mat sell for over $500. That's the only three I've seen for sale in the last three years. They're that hard to find!

A friend of mine called over 40 vendors trying to locate a reproduction mat for her truck and finally found what seems to be the last reproduction mat out there. I called the same place and they were out of stock, she got the last one. Maybe if we all called weekly to various vendors they'll get the message that we need reproduction floor mats!

i got a 60-63 low hump rubber mat the same day the 65 mat sold for $316 on ebay its got chevrolet on it so i think its NOS, but i think folks missed it cuz most wanted the 64-66 style. i saw a truck on a web site and it was a 66 with the same 60-63 style and it looked good not correct but it fits and i only paid $90. btw way it was me that bought the NOSR mat. i figured they aint coming back for sell so its take it while i can... ouch is what my wallet said thou
