Hi Im new to the web site and glad to have found you all. I have a 67 chevy c10. This is a total parts build, so pretty easy to go whatever direction I would like. Im using lots of ideas found here in the fourm. One question I have not yet found is it possible to convert the steel box bed to wood. I have seen both steel and wood 8ft. fleet side boxes. My box is from a 69 and is steel. Just wondered if by chance the box was common and the floor was something of a "bolt up" option. Thanks. Great wed site!

Welcome to the board.
I believe you will only have to change the front bed panel.
Of coarse you will have to take the metal floor out. effectively using the bedsides, wheel housings and tailgate. As all the cross sills and front panel are different.
I don't highly recommend LMC due to high prices, but they catalogs are great for showing how things go together.

In fact you don't have to buy the whole front panel, if you have welding skills or access to somebody with them, you can buy them bottom part and convert your front panel or a rusty one to save one that is good all but the bottom. other wise you will be trading out the front bed panel to compensate for the difference in the floor thicknesses. i have a 68 GMC fleet long bed that is wood and I'm gonna use the cross sills to make a short wood floor to go with some real nice sides I have. I think my number of projects is fluid not to mention the way they're gonna be built. My project number has gone from 3 to 5 thanks to WIGGY HD. [well I have to blame somebody. Jim

I don't mind the upkeep at all !!!

You just have to bribe the kid with a new computer game, twice a year !!!

( My 70's bed was finished over three years ago and still looks the same )

No bribes here....My son has long grown up and joined the service, as I've owned my '67 for 19 years now.

It's the only vehicle I own, so the box get used. Of course I use a rubber mat but the North Carolina sun beats the sh*t out of the finish. I'd prefer a metal floor hands down.
