My new winter truck

So I have my 71 C10 completely apart, just painted the frame and now my wife is tired of sharing her truck so I figured I needed something else to drive. I did not want to spend much and have been looking at Nissans and Hondas for $1000-$1500 but nothing that seemed like I could drive 80 miles a day. Well I found a 1969 C20 camper special with a 396 cid and th400.that has a decent body and bed(wood) that runs but need some little things. The PO had tried to replace the rockers and cab corner but it did not work out so he bought a 2nd rust free cab. The cab has not been installed yet but it comes with the truck. Also the rockers that were bought to repair the original cab.
Well Looking at it tonight some of this issues that I have found was things like the starter needs to be shimmed, timing or dwell really off, some vacuum leaks and the heater hoses are not connected correctly. Also it has a 4 blade steel fan with a spacer and no clutch. Just happen to have a 7 blade fan and clutch out in the bar from the C10 after going to electric fans. Some other issues are the choke does not work and there are some big holes in the exhaust system and needs tires.
I plan to get it safe to drive for the winter and then use parts off of it for the c10.

Re: My new winter truck

Nice score. Hope it works out for you. With my luck, I would start tinkering on it and have two non-op projects.

Re: My new winter truck

Picked the c20 up tonight and stopped for fuel. Went to start it and the starter made a loud bang and than did nothing. Turned out that some cheep bolts, not starter bolts were used to bolt the starter on and they bent. Had a friend take me to the parts store got new "starter bolts" swapped them out and started just fine than made the 40 mile drive home. Fun

As a SoCal member I think I'm supposed to ask the sarcastic question....

What's winter?

Re: My new winter truck

Went to the junk yard and got the carpet out of a 98 Chevy truck for $5. Will have to clean it but it should work. Right now it's just a steel floor.
