Q on paint orginality for door panels.

I have a 72 and have converted them to 67-71 style metal panels. My truck is code 510, and the door panels I got are a dark blue(which I kinda like).

Were door panels painted to match the rest of the truck or where they different shades? If they are different shades, what would be proper code with a body color of 510?

The metal trim panels are color coordinated to the trim color and not the body color. But then some people even chrome them.
So what trim color are you planing?

A couple of base trim 71s, including a base trim with factory buckets (and carpet).

Re: Q on paint orginality for door panels.

I'm not chroming, that's for sure.

I was asking what stock color they would be. But maybe your implying that even with 510 body color, I could have different options for what the panels could be? I have blue seats and blue dash pad, so I guess they would be a shade of blue?

sstim, thanks for pictures. I didn't know carpet was an option from the factory!

Re: Q on paint orginality for door panels.

Actually I am stating a 71 Custom trim level would have Black, Blue, Green or Parchment (white) metal door panels and matching armrest. The color is about the same as the dash pad. In your case a blue trim truck would have had medium blue door panels like pictured above. No matter the exterior color they would be "510 meduim blue" (Ditzer code 2188) which in your case happens to match the exterior paint. But they would be the same blue on a white or black truck as well.

Here are two pictures showing the correct color medium blue trim panel against the 523 Dark Blue and the 510 Meduim Blue

Dark blue door panels were used in earlier trucks like a 68 or 69.

Carpet is an interesting subject. On the later base trim trucks generally the only way you could get carpet was to order the bucket seats too. Or upgrade to the CST, Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super trims as GM expected.

Re: Q on paint orginality for door panels.

Huh, so in my case where I plan to duplicate 71, they would be same as outside color then? Well crap, I was hoping for some contrast. I may do the reverse of the first pic and do the 510 body, and 523 door panels.

But the panels I have are still way darker then that. Hum...

Here is what I have right now. The rub paint spot on the bottom is color 523 aka 2366. I thought it was to be dark blue like the panels I have.

Like I said the darker blue were earlier door panels. Here is a 68.
67,68 and 69 used different blue color codes. But for a 69 it would be Ditzler 12409/GM 508 dark blue exterior color.
