My baby is coming home (finally)!!!

I've been trying and failing to buy my 72 K10 Cheyenne Super back since "temporarily" selling it to my father-in-law several years ago. Since then, he moved to the sticks, I moved to Kentucky, and the truck has sat after he poured a bunch of money into repairs and then parked it in storage. Everything has finally fallen into place to bring it home, and it was loaded onto the trailer today. Should be in Kentucky this weekend! Thanks Bill (Booya) for getting it running well enough to get it loaded onto the trailer!!! I'll throw a new carb on once it arrives, do a good thorough tune up, and start making a list of things to do!!!

Re: My baby is coming home (finally)!!!

Thanks guys! I'm pretty excited for sure. There's quite a few older pictures in my signature, but I'll definitely be adding a bunch of new ones as I clean it up and get it back on the road.

Looks like a very nice truck and I am happy you got it back. I guess to some folks this is almost the ultimate 67-72. Black Short Wheelbase K10 Cheyenne Super.

Did he have it repainted back to black? I thought I remember it maroon and silver. I also remember it being originally black with blue interior? Trevor

Re: My baby is coming home (finally)!!!

The maroon and silver one was actually one that I found for sale over in Wyoming about a year after I sold this one. Didn't buy it because there were so many discrepancies to drive that far to look at it. I've been through several other trucks since this one, but this was the first one I bought. This one was originally Dark Olive, but was repainted inside and out years ago.

Re: My baby is coming home (finally)!!!

Made it home! The driver did a great job and flat out covered some ground on the way back to Kentucky. Left Boise on Thursday at noon and made it here by 2am this morning! Time to start going over everything and make a gameplan... I installed a new battery this afternoon and I need to at least get the new Quick Fuel carb installed and get it driveable to see how everything feels. I know the transmission will need rebuilt at some point in the near future, but I'm hoping to put that off to next spring if possible. My hauler actually has a rebuilt TH350 that he'd make me a heck of a deal on, so I may go that route if this one is shot.

Need to get the bed cleaned out. The original 350 is on a crate in the back, along with a bunch of random pieces and parts and the tonneau cover.

Lots of little cosmetic things to work on this winter, and then a repaint at some point in the future. The original paint was Medium Olive over Dark Olive, but I might go solid Dark Olive if I don't keep the black. For now though, I just want to get it back out on the road!

Man from one 4x4 557 paint owner to another, Go back to medium over dark. That seems to be a very rare factory scheme especially on a 4x4. It looks killer when done correctly! Never the less very nice K/10 you've got there!

Re: My baby is coming home (finally)!!!

Thanks for the comments guys! I'm getting impatient to make some real progress on it. Already running into things I hadn't planned on, but I think that's the only thing you CAN plan on: unexpected expenses!!! On the plus side, it is just as rust free as I remember. Having had several others since selling this one, I can certainly appreciate the condition a lot more this time around. The clearcoat has deteriorated quite a bit, but the metal is in terrific condition outside of the tailgate.

I was thinking it had an aftermarket intake already, but it still has a stock version. Probably upgrade that at some point in the near future. I started installing my new Quick Fuel carb, only to find out the solid dual fuel line won't fit because of the AC compressor bracket. Luckily board member JCblue was coming into town today for the big car show and brought me a temp flexible hose setup that he'd used as a template to have a custom one built. It was great to meet him in person!

I also started checking out the wiring and immediately found bared metal on both the positive and negative wires from the distributor to the ignition coil. Looks like they've been chewed on.... That, combined with the godawful sound of a partially clogged heater fan, tells me something I really didn't want to know!

So I've now ordered a HEI distributor, some new custom length plug wires, and a set of wire looms and hopefully I'll pick up where I left off next weekend. In the meantime, I might pull the gas tank this week and drain the old gas, pull the plugs and regap them for the HEI, and work on replacing any additional suspect wiring. I may also roll this into a project page since I'm probably going to be doing more work on it sooner than I'd originally planned.
