Front "A" arm shafts/bushing replacement

Front control "A" arm bushing replacement..is it correct?

I replaced all the shafts on the control arms. I tightneed both sides evenly and until the big nut is flush against the control arm but I still have a gap (even on both sides) between the bushing and the a arm. I have attached a picture. Thank you. (TX firefighter/lowlife)??!

I don't have any close up pics but it seems your outer bushing/nut is not seated all the way in the pic. Here are two different sets of arms I did and you can see there is no gap between the nut and arm.

I got the big nut torqued all the way down after the picture. I'm just wondering about the rubber seal should it be up snug against the arm? Thanks!

Not really needed. The part that seals out dirt is the area on the shaft (the area that the seal necks down to). You should be fine.

So I just discovered that my (powdercoated) mcgaughys drop spindles don't have the holes for the dust covers

Do I drill into them and tap them? Or run without dust covers?

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but it seems like a good time ask this question.

What is the torque spec on that big 1 5/8" nut? I have heard numbers as high as 280 ft.lb. and as lo as 115 ft.lb.

I believe my Haynes book was like 200+ ft lbs..I'd have to look again to be sure..

Dropped spindles typically are design not to work with dust shields. I have always run without them.

I think they would work if you drill and tapped the bosses on the spindle, but most people don't run them. They would probably be a good idea if you are on dirt roads allot, I can certainly see that they protect from rocks getting stuck in the pad.
