coolant leaking into cab and under hood

I was driving my 69 c-10 and i'm not sure what happened but when I went to shift the engine revved out, I wasnt sure what to do so I killed it and pulled over. When I got out to look under the hood I noticed coolant was draining out of the box mounted on the firewall on the passenger side of the truck (heating stuff right ???) I also noticed coolant was draining on the passenger side floor in the cab. My question is... what happened and how do I fix it. From what I heard it's the heater core, am I correct?

Sounds like you blew out the heatercore. Pretty easy fix. Shouldnt be too expensive either.

Most definatley the heater core sprung a leak. I have seen a thread that gives instructions on howto replace. I would suggest using the search for "heater core" and you should find some good info.

Yep, that's the heater core. You have to remove the housing from the firewall to gain access to the heater core. You will also need to remove the right front inner fender to access all the bolts that hold the heater housing in place. We have new cores that actually fit for $39.95. Most auto parts stores sell the ones made in Mexico that do not fit. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

You can bypass it for now, if your climate and yourself both agree.

Thumbs up Re: coolant leaking into cab and under hood

It's the heater core ..... had this happen to me in my 60 Vette. $39.95 looks like a good price for new and it fits. Good advice as well about the removal of the inner fender.

esll.

Mine did that before and I just bypassed it for a few months until I decided to put a new one in because it got cold.

Re: coolant leaking into cab and under hood

to bypass as a temp fix you take the 2hoses off at the firewall and with a couple of clamps and a pipe nipple you join them together so the antifreeze wont leak in the cab anymore
