Series 3/4

I have been reading where you cannot put 3.73 gears in a series 3 carrier. I looked at a Richmond Gear set from Jegs that say they are for a series 3. Can this be true? I would like to exchange my 3.08 or 07's for 3.73's as I am towing a trailer with it. It only showed cars, are truck and cars of that era different?

Thanks
Ron

Re: Series 3/4

You can buy 3.73's for either series of carrier (3 or 4), your 3.07 gear set means you have a 3 series carrier.
The break is at 3.90 ( which uses a 4 series carrier).

Re: Series 3/4

Where would one go to get the gear set for the series 3?

I answered your pm. These gears can be bought most anywhere.

Re: Series 3/4

As was mentioned - make sure you buy gears for the truck axle because the car 12 bolt axle is different.

Re: Series 3/4

The 3 series carrier for a truck 12 bolt will accomodate 2.76-3.42 gears. The 4 series carrier will accomodate 3.73 gears and lower. You can purchase thick gears to install a 3.73 ratio onto a 3 series carrier.
